  • Ok i'm getting desperate for a small frame so i don't know if i'm clutching at straws here but is this worth bothering with.

  • yeah seems alright. wouldn't bid too much more over £45 though. Also just check the rear spacing and if it takes 700c wheels

  • Bosshogg - how tall are you?
I have an old carbolite Pug frame that's too small for me; about 52 seat tube & 53 top tube.

  • I get the feeling you're getting a little desperate? I don't know that I'd spend much on that frame - it needs work, and unless you're good with a rattle can, it'll cost a couple of notes to get sorted out.

Be patient - I was looking for a replacement frame for months, around the time when frames were going for silly money - but after a while I lucked out and picked up a Mercian for £90. Still can't believe it, and am much happier with that than anything I was thinking about bidding twice that for.

If it helps, I have a small frame in the shed. It needs a respray but otherwise it's in pretty good nick. I'll check the size tomorrow - if you're interested I'd take a lot less than the frame you're looking it on eBay...

  • Olmo are an established Italian manufacturer based near Genoa. Columbus SL was a high quality tubeset, at least equivalent to Reynolds 531, used in frame manufacture during the late 1970s and throughout the 1980s.

There's some good info on it on this website; Italian Cycling Journal.

I reckon it'll go for more than £45 as it's a recognised manufacturer, a decent tubeset and a sought after frame size. Good luck with it though.

5ft 6in i have pretty short legs 28 1/2 inner, believe it or not i've just sold a pug carbolite frame as it was a tad big at 21inch, I had problems with the BB too. http://www.londonfgss.com/thread8525.html#post245864

That would be a great help, let me know please, i'm not promising though as i want to get the sizing spot on .

  • thats a very nice frame, I dont know what your winging about. In agreement with andy, will go for a little more im sure. but a nice frame indeed, would look fantastic resprayed & decalled up. How rare is it to have the original badge & transfers unapplied?

A secondhand well used fuji track etc would go for a £100 easy, I know which one i would prefer.

That can be taken two ways which way do you mean.

  • What a beautifully crafted lugged frame made of premium tubing by a respected italian frame builder, with the classy original livery miraculously unapplied & in mint condition

    vs.

a mass made, dull as fuck economy steel frame taken from a budget taiwanese complete bike?

    let me think....

  • Oh right get you now.

  • 5ft 6in i have pretty short legs 28 1/2 inner.

could be worse mate, our Uncle Carl was 6'3" with a 26 1/4 inner leg.

Course he didn't feel comfortable with us calling him Uncle Carl. We called him what everyone across Europe called him - "The Human Orangutan".

  • Ok gotta ask,to those who like the frame what's a realistic price to go to.

  • one you feel warm and giggly winning the auction with.

    FREE then.

    didn't happen unless i see a photo

  • As a lad.

  • He lives up to his name, that's for-fucking-sure

  • Just got a reply back from the seller it has 130mm dropouts and takes 700c wheels, anygood.

  • yup, all good. you can cold set (bend) the dropout to the 'standard' 120mm or get a wheel built to 130mm.

I'd say stick bid in, fyi i got my columbus sl viner for £45 off ebay. that was a good while ago though...inflation...

  • bosshog. the olmo is a good frame. If it fitted me and I needed a frame, I'd go to no more than £100. you're gonna have to pay delivery, plus £50-£150 to get it refinished,

for £175 you could definitely be in 2nd hand OTP bike territory, which would buy you the breathing room to wait for a cheap frame in the winter when none of the hipsters are thinking about cycling.

If you get this frame it's gonna end up being lovely but not overall cheap if that's your aim. You can cold set the rear to 120mm or space it out, but its a road frame and so will have a lower BB than normal.
If you've got the money, go for it, but don't expect to get it running / pristine any time soon unless you have all your parts ready and waiting to go....

    +1

If this is going to be your first fixed/singlespeed, you'll need to think carefully about whether you want to invest that much. That's a lot on a conversion - but the good thing is that if you leave the braze ons and gear hanger on, you can convert it back or sell it on at a later date.

  • Mooks, have you been in your shed yet?

  • Mooks, have you been in your shed yet?

Just dragged myself out of the shed and my tape measure says it's 20.5" or 52cm centre to centre (bottom bracket to seat clamp). Let me know if you're interested - should say this is the frame I've mentioned in another thread, which has a seized stem/forks. I'd leave it up to you to see if you wanted to try and free them yourself, or I could take a hacksaw to them.

  • Do you know what make it is, sorry for being so picky but i need to get it right this time around.

  • It's a Raleigh - don't worry, it takes an English thread BB!
