I don't think anyone has mentioned this - nail polish remover brings white rubber out really clean. When I liked clean shoes, I used to clean all my shoes with it. Now I just prefer having grubby shoes. It also works on leather - gets a pale saddle pristine again.
Just make sure you give it a really thorough rinse afterwards though so it doesn't perish the material.
