I have no idea what you're talking about ed but sounds good to me.
count me in.

tags, you know "tags, you're it", basically one day everyone who's not working/busy must wear a yellow band on their arm, if you see one having a yellow armband, you must tag him/her, and they have to wear a red one to show that they're 'tagged', only the red one can tag people, the yellow one don't tags, they're simply victim waiting to be raped.
a bit of a cat & mouse games, not sure how it'd work considering the area might be big (unless we limited it to says, Soho), and people walking on road might be an issue, but it's an idea after all, I wonder if it possible to developed it, or if it too inconvenience to make a games out of it.

sounds fuckin brilliant.
anyone want to wade in and make sense of this mad idea?
I take it we'd need someone (ed?) as the starter and yellow / red armbands would have to be distributed the night before. Is this making sense ed?

only one person have the red armbands, the rest is yellows, the red have to find a yellow, and then tag them, if succeed, the armbands must be swap so the red become yellow and yellow become red.
it only would work if there's more than 10 people, otherwise it'd be a tedious chasing/finding and would drain the fun out of it.
not sure how we can declare the winner thought, unless we have 5 red, and 15+ yellow, we can make it the least tagged's the winner?
OR
Simply instead of swapping the band, we could do a demolition derby (without the demolition) that in a time limit of 10 minutes, you must try and tag everyone as quick as possible before time run out, and the one who managed to tag everyone in the quickest time win?
I wanted to try and think of a more fixed gear-ordinated games than polos, polos is fun, but most of our bikes are dying to be taken hardcore in the street of London, hence Tags.

I think this would be a right laff, could be a sun-drenched summer classic, sometime late August when it's hot.
Okay... I guess the next move is - who's up for it?

I'm worried about location thought, how much area is enough without being too big? Soho sound decent, less traffic light (thus, less worried of jumping red and getting caught by the plod), narrow twisty street, quite a lots of us know the area reasonably well, pubs nearby when we finish for the day, but people walking about might be an issue, and could actually cause harms.

I'd love it if we had enough players to take in the following areas: Clerkenwell Rd, Holborn, Aldwych, Shaftesbury Avenue, Trafalgar, PIccadilly Circus, Whitehall, Westminster.
Sort of a "bewilder the tourists" kind of playing field.

Bloody hell that'd be big, the bigger the area, the bigger the time limit, for the whole area, I reckon 30 minutes time limit should do.
we'd need says, 30 players for that, but for a first test, the Soho area would be a good start.

Yeah a bit like that, but without the rollerblade obviously.

I'm up for the test..

I suppose we'll have to wait till the afternoon for the general members to sign up for it...

true, true.
pm massive - what gives? can we knock this into shape?

What about if we all had riding crops and rode passed each other and whipped each others asses instead of just 'tag' ? Or is that a bit pervy?
-
• #16
Riding crops would increase the number of forumengers interested in this by a factor of about 10. Not sure I properly understand it tho.
-
• #17
Hmm. Could run the risk of someone getting flattened on the streets tho, so we'd have to pick a quiet time...
What about urban triatholon? Or even better, urban biathalon - shoot someone and ride off as fast as you can :-)
-
• #18
riding crops could get outa hand, picture someone hoofing it down on you then thwak, if they then miss your butt and hit you elsewhere it could be owie...
speaking of other games. 1percent will be doing a all comers alley cat game when in honour of jack's arrival back on british soil. that's a game for you ;)

you know, when they told you to "go and play in traffic" they weren't actually suggesting you do so...
this idea is an accident waiting to happen.

One of the ways I used to play tag as a kid was if you got tagged you joined the hunting group. Last man standing wins. You could try that for a faster and different game.
Do kids still play tag or British Bulldog, or don't they need excuses to beat each other up these days?

many of the best games are.

one way to do it would be to give everyone three ribbons, while you have any of you three ribbons left you can grab one ribbon from anyone you tag. if you lose all your ribbons you are out and have to go commiserate yourself in an arranged pub. The person who has taken the most number of ribbons at the end of the game wins. you would have to have a rule that you can't take two ribbons of the same person consecutively to stop someone nicking all of them at once.

You limit the accidents by not making it a speed contest but about the joy of the game dude. Usually done in sunday morning away from core traffic. With all routes to check points accessable via less busy roads
1 percent was the one of the first groups to include non - working messengers in the game. One strong rider street rider with one not so savy rider work as a team, each "check point" is a treasure hunt where you have to perform an action or find the treasure specified.
There's no prize for 1st, so no incentive to do dumb stuff. The emphasis is on having fun not being fast. Last time me and my rookie went to a gallery and stopped for lunch before arriving at the end. He had a blast, had never ridden in london before and ended up buying a bike. So, really my point is you may have some misconceptions about what an alley cat is.. some are for people with skills and those are not generally for common consumption, but in actuality are no more dangerous than what those riders encounter every day - in their working life.
Some, are meant to be social fun and encourage and improve riding.
The latter is what i am talking about. -
• #24
how about making this an ongoing thing? make it last for a week. person with the most ribbons at the end of the week wins.
-
• #25
not tag but capture the flag on bikes is fun
What do you think about a games of tags in central London with our bikes? I have some decent idea if you lots like the sound of it.
