  • Hi guys it's my first post and I'd like some help... be gentle

I've picked these out as off the pegish bikes

any experience/ recomendations would be awesome, got myself a tax rebate and I'm looking to spend it.

I'm not really looking to build much as I've got a fixed project underway (got an old AF Mills frame and some Phil Wood hubs to build upon... it's going to be purdy)

    Condor Pista

    Cannondale Capo Optimo
    http://www.evanscycles.com/products/cannondale/capo-caad5-optimo-2007-road-bike-ec015465

Road rat (but I'd want drops and discs)

    a surly 1X1with discs?

    Fuji?
    http://www.comptoncycles.co.uk/products.php?plid=m1b75s197p2736

    Genesis Skyline?
    http://www.awcycles.co.uk/category/Bikes/Single_Speed~Track_Bikes_76/Skyline,_single_speed_road_bike,_2008/13001/index.aspx

Anything I've missed or desperate to help me put a whole in my pocket???

    Thanks

    CP

  • condor pista FTW

the others are all ok, except the rugrat, it's not a proper road bike.

why the hell do you want discs??

either you want a cyclocross bike or a road bike or a track bike, which is it?

  • look at the tdf riders descending the mountain stages.
    do they need disks?

the roadrat is an ugly overpriced hybrid. if you want to ride towpaths and look like a nonce then just buy a marin or something from halfords.

  • Surely the Langster has a SS side to it's nature

  • just as many options as I could find tbh, agreed with the roadrat, the more I look at it more I dislike it

the disc brakes are for when it's pi$$ing down and I don't want compromise on braking, it was sounding out of an idea

I'm leaning towards the condor as well as I love my Squadra to bits and they were great service wise etc

  • Your braking in the wet will always be compromised. The limiting factor will be the grip your tyres have with the road.

  • I converted to SS for commuting duties a few months ago - went for a Pearson Touche of the peg and been very happy with it so far. This caught my eye today though:Swobo Del Norte Fixie http://www.charliethebikemonger.com/userimages/procart22.htm

  • I rode my Fuji all last winter. I love it.

Its a good bike. Please anti jinx me... no problems, its very quick, rides great, its fast as frik, nice size and riding position for me. It does creak a bit (a lot) if you give it hell out of the saddle. Race blades took a bit of manipulation to fit well (but they always do I suppose). The saddle got worn pretty quick, but I suppose that depends on how and how much you ride. Its a track bike I suppose but the forks are oval though which is nice but its still brutally responsive. But I suppose thats why we ride tracks.

All in all, for value for money I think the Fuji is great - hence I bought it!

    Peace

  • I am going to pick up one of these when i am out in the US over the winter, not available this side of the pond unfortunately

And whether you're too lazy to clean your rims and replace your pads soon enough.

  • Looking for any recomendations for a winter utility bike

    so far on the list

    Salsa Fargo
    Voodoo Nakisi
    Vassago Fisticuffs

    What i need/want

    • Minimum 58cm seat post c to t
    • Disc tabs
    • Cleareance for 35c plus mud guards
    • Mudguard eyelets
    • More of a 29er geometry, not really wanting a single track drop bar bike
    • (Rack mounts)

If anyone has any ideas that would be a great help, it seems to me to be one of the above or custom feather or ted

    cheers

  • Top Tip:

Do NOT google image search 'Vassago Fisticuffs' at work with SafeSearch off.

    I have explaining to do...

  • try singular too, tokyo fixed are going to be stocking them

  • a Surly Karate Monkey might be worth a look.

    ludicrous!
anyone know if you can get a hebie chainglider on that? and you can even get a hebie chainglider on it to make it suit-friendly!

I tihnk that the clearance would be a bit tight

a Surly Karate Monkey might be worth a look.

seat tube is too short sadly

  • Shame they didn't put the cable guides on top of the seat tube on that pompetamine.

  • seb, you may find a few ideas on the 29er thread

luckily for you there are plenty of huge frames in the UK, though ones for normal sized folk are in short supply

  • seriously considering an impulse purchase of a blue pompetalfine or whatever it's called. Add a dynohub, mudguards, rack and chainglider and it's good to go...

Well...for certain values of "huge" at least.

I have 38s on my Pompino. 35s + mud guards could be possible?

might be difficult as i want to combine it with a disc brake so will need it near the front of the track ends, do you still think it would be possible
