Both Teensain (hope you don't mind the name drop dude) and I can attest to the fact that buying fixed/free phils is a big mistake. Once you start riding fixed, you will find the freewheel will sit and rust unused.
-
• #6
plus, you can mount a freewheel on a fixed thread, but not vice versa.
-
• #7
yeah I found universal cycles, so now I'm about to buy way to much stuff :)

What jaygee said, flip flop hubs are a stupid idea seeing as you can run a freewheel on a fixed/fixed hub anyway... And then you get two sweet Phil lockrings... They're made of magic, those things...

Treefort bikes will do fixed fixed as a special order, but I don't know if they like doing it, I was on the phone for about 20 minutes to get it sorted.
Fixed/Fixed is still a flipflop hub no? Thought flipflop was anything with 2 sides?

Your correct Gizmond, flip flop hubs do indeed refer to being able to run gears on either side of the wheel whether it be fixed/free or fixed/fixed (go for fixed/fixed if poss, if you strip the thread on one side you will still have the thread on the other)

hmmmm, I thought that was flip-flip (or maybe flop-flop)?
I prefer the look of single sided hubs, cleaner.

Universal have discount codes too
VIP10 for 10% $100+ and VIP15 for 15% off $300
VIP15 worked for my Phils and S75 cranks before Xmas :)

Discount codes! That's a thread that needs to be started immediately! Nice work, Steve... :)

• #18
+1 about the thread of disocunts
there is one already for wiggle I think, but we can have one with all the shops

I'm pissed off I have flip flop hub now... I'm going to have to build a new wheel with double fixed at some point when I have a bit more dosh...

Also a victim of the the Phil flip/flop purchasing jinx but I now use the freewheel side for my track gearing (get her, been to HH four times and he's got a track gear ratio) with a load of Loctite and a BB lockring.

So I've been looking at Dura Ace HB7600, and they look rather nice and sturdy. What is the "normal" price for these? I'm clueless (as usual).

You have double fixed so you can have two different fixed cogs, as opposed to fixed/free. You can have road and track gearing if you ride fixed/fixed!

jus change the cogs then . . . then flipin it over . . .
I found a pair of unused phil hubs on ebay for £136 inc shipping. The back hub has freewheel & fixed and a width of 120mm and front hub is 100mm.
Isn't this quite cheap?
