i've some nice obamaspoke here
-
• #3
maybe get a spokecard to use as a chainring?
-
• #4
had to search for what TTH stood for, but, who cares, just ride it.
nice seatpost by the way.
question. why the anti campag/shimano thing, wouldn't it just make it longer, and be more convoluted to build up? though thinking about it, my bike doesn't have any campag/shimano components either. -
• #5
'what a cunt' screenprinted spokecard could be available for such a fine build
-
• #6
and maybe two folded spokecards to create as horizontal dropouts?
-
• #7
tth?

I see SRAM...I fucking hate SRAM...apart from their powerlinks :)
-
• #11
+1 to hating the SRAM.
-
• #12
looks nice, too much red can look gash but that's spot on.
bb looks low for those cranks if you use those big learner pedal strap things -
• #13
Do tell me about the grips.
-
• #14
from what i can see this bike has vertical dropouts.
that makes it a silly choice of conversion. i might be wrong.
-
• #15
yep. looks vert to me. hope you've worked out the right cog/chainset combo
nice clean build tho
-
• #16
looks semi-vertical to me.
should be fix-able without much trouble.

+1 to hating the SRAM.
I can't actually explain why either. Although DoubleTap is shite and SRAM Red makes me angry.
-
• #18
right, i give up, what does tth mean?
-
• #19
ooh Velo orange hand stitched leather bar stuff. I love it!

first thing I noticed too.
maybe they are just those short ones, but they do look like propers verts from here

I'm currently building a bike with the smallest horizontal drops ever.
it will be laughs!Edit: they might be that in between one- should be ok though.
-
• #22
what does it mean???? those letters... i'm not going to write them, you know which ones
-
• #23
Trying too hard.
-
• #24
You missing some spokes on that rear wheel?
-
• #25
cheers guys - feling the love.
TTH = trying too hard
It is SRAM (love it or hate it, the calipers feel lovely) and semi-vertical but very short dropout action. But I'm running magic gear (50x19) with a half link shadow chain which *should *work. And anyway, I kinda bought the frame whilst I'm saving up for a bob Jackson or something similar. The frame is cinelli, but chromoly, (sticker says produced by mannesmann who I thought were German).
The idea behind no shimano / campag was simply that the last serious bike I built was 1989, a reynolds 753 pug, with dura-ace. looking back, buying a full groupset (albeit, a piece at a time) took some of the fun out of piecing something creative together. Plus I have always fucking loved the miche supertype seatpost.
BDW, I think I have to earn my spokecards, no?
Anyway, here's the full bike as it is at the moment...
hi cupcakes, I'm in a quandry. I've been putting my new bike together and it's taken longer than expected. The concept is to keep it true(ish) to period, but not to use anything from Shimano or Campag. It's sort of an anti-groupset bike.
Now it's almost finished, I'm experiencing increasing anxiety that I'm guilty of that most heinous crime in fixiedom*: TTH.
Advice and opinions on a spokecard please. Should I:
a. Kill myself. TTH
b. just lose the attitude and ride
*except, obviously, growing a handlebar moustache.
