I want to buy a workstand, the choice is bewildering, and prices range from 50 squid to over 300
Can anyone recommend a good quality workstand...?

i've been told bottom-of-the-line park tools one will suffice. but outside of that i'm not too sure. eventually i'd like to be in the market for one, possibly with a digital scale on it, but i'm pretty sure those are costly.

I use an Ultimate workstand, and they are pretty fkin ultimate to be honest, but you have to pay ultimate money for them too - you can get something to do the job for a lot less. If you wanted to spend too much money though, I'd definitely recommend one.

Looks a bit more sturdy that 'ultimate stand' another hundred quid though makes one ponder

What's wrong with the old 'lean bike against the tree outside your crappy flat' stand? Works for me.. oh wait.. I don't work on my bikes coz it ruins the carpet.. um..

I think that it has more to do with hanging my new 'de rosa' frame up so I can look at it and 'I love your little hearts'

I'm using A Topeak one and it's fine. Folds up nicely and can be hidden in the corner. The only real downer is that it's a bit fiddly to get a bike on/off. So it'd be rubbish for a busy workshop, but for an average bloke with a couple of bikes, it's fine.

Gosh. Has this one woken up again? In the end, I got a Topeak one in the end. It's... OK. Once the bike's in, it's nice and sturdy. But it does interfere with the gear cables a bit, which means that derailleur adjustment is best done off the stand. And the clamp that holds the downtube to the stand is a little too large and too wide to be able to use the cranks.

oops, '07, me bad! :(
I need a workstand (before my knees/back pack in). Any recommendations? Anything I should specifically avoid? Are the ones that clamp onto the fork and BB better than those that you just clamp onto the seat/down-tube?
Something that folds up would be nice - even if it's just a matter of folding the legs in so it can stand up in a corner. And I'd like something that's high enough to work on the crank/BB area without having to bend over it too much.
I like the look of the Tackx Cyclespider and the Topeak Prepstand, but don't really have much frame of reference. Workstands aren't something I imagine buying a lot of, so any advice is much appreciated!
