  • oh standards! its a lovely story but to be fair he peaked too early. i have saved presents of that magnitude 10 years in. reminds me of a chap i met at a CAMRA real ale fest. he popped into the office of his very pretty girlfriend and flew her to Hong Kong for a valentines present... every year since she has been expecting and expecting.. but in his defence he got some!

It's great of you to donate to a charity, stick with one that means something to you. or even better something that means something or is close to him?? a very nice friendship thankyou

  • nice story but he's either gay or want's a shag.

  • amen

  • mercy shag?*

(Sorry, but it *was *a really heartwarming story)

    *poll!

  • I'd shag him for a new bike.

I mean, not just any old bike. Not just some off-the-peg thing like a Langster, or a cheap conversion with a crappy Peugeot Carbolite frame and dubious componentry. I'd want something special, like a really sweet sixties or seventies Italian road frame conversion, or maybe an original fifties British road/path bike with fancy lugwork, like a Gillott or a Hetchins. Or some mad, fully NJS'ed Keirin thing from Japan. I'd probably do a guy for one of those.

    Poll?

  • If I had to sleep with someone for a bike it certainly wouldn't be a conversion.

    I'd want track ends.

  • its good to hear a nice story in this day and age, and even better to see the internet used for its original intention to create a space which allows people to be openly morally grey. Touching it is ;P

  • Again, for the record, I'd like to state that I don't usually post soppy-music, wind-in-hair stories, and that I'm actually really cynical and bitchy. Really.

The bike's still at his place, haven't had a chance to take it home yet. Will get pictures up as soon as I bring it home.

And to those of you who keep repeating that he wants a shag... dude, he's a guy. Of course he wants a shag. It goes without saying. Next insightful remark, please...

  • I've done this a time or two for potential suitors. though they've rarely showed much appreciation for the amount of time and work that goes into building up a bike. i'm glad to see there are still birds out there that appreciate small things.

You mean potential pursuits? If you're the one trying to win their hearts, that makes you the suitor.

Didn't you mention in another thread that you're an English teacher....? :-P

  • Told you emoxfag. you better stay behind a few nights and get your head down...

why did you go and tell us that....you have just ruin a perfectly good thread...

  • why don't you like him then? is he:

    1.fat
    2.ugly
    3.married
    4.old
    5.short
    6.adenoidal and from surrey

  • 7.rpm

Is it a pursuit frame? That would be appropriate.

  • without defeating your enthusiasm, I'm pretty sure this is how about 75% of the women here got into fixed in the first place.

Next step is dumping the old guy (he's already bought you a bike) and looking for a new guy ("well, the last guy I dated bought me a bike?!!?")

  • I bought an ex girlfriend a bike in the late 80s (just after we had split), I could afford it and we were still friends.
I'd paid for the bike and told her we could pick it up at the weekend, she hadn't ridden for a while. She got impatient, picked it up herself midweek, and proceeded to try to ride from Southwark to Finsbury Park. London traffic got the better of her and she hit a kerb while avoiding a bus.
A week in hospital, and a life with a metal plate in her ankle.
I thought I was being kind.
Don't know why I just told you all this story, but I did

  • We should ask VB to add a box "looking for relationship" in profile.

Looking forward to the first LFGSS wedding!

Smeear and I are planning a nice October wedding this year.

    Y not???

  • he loves you.x

  • "P.S. I thought about it, and in the end, I told It's-Complicated-Guy that I wasn't comfortable with accepting such an expensive gift. He insists that the cost isn't a problem (which is true, it's not a problem for him), and he assured me that the gift doesn't obligate me to anything, he wasn't trying to buy my affection, etc."

wow had a very similar situation to this with my ex but it was a camera not a bike, should have suggested thew charity! i offered to sell it to her for £100 instead of give it to her but she still felt weird so i sold it to amte for £150...

still not sure i understand why girls have a problem with this...

  • because they know they aren't into you enough to really deserve it. Ex? I rest my case.

Just putting it out there............. ducks
