Late 80's , early 90's skatey punk does the job for me.
Makes me want to ride something or other quite fast and pull some radical manouvres or something.
Oh and that song, "motorbreath" by metallica.
Although I most often listen to something a little more mellow like the Byrds as im not usually in a supercharged kinda mood.

Down with Killswitch.
Akercocke is always a good bet.Any punk, drum&bass. Most intellectual hiphop. Madonna, black metal. EBM, industrial and power noise.
Bascially anything I've ever consumed narcotics whilst listening too ;]

Usually something hard and heavy to keep me flying along, but the other day I switched to radio three just in time for the indiana jones theme tune while flying down crystal palace hill at about 30mph! Made me feel like I was flying a sopwith camel through the grand canyon or something...
Somedays its great to cruise along to some opera as well, keeps you cool and calm as you slide passed all the pissed off drivers bumper to bumper in their expensive boxes of metal. -

After watching the Lucas Brunelle video of the London Calling, I decided that "Heeding the Call" by Hammerfall might be a good cycling tune to have buzzing round my head during a long sportif. I spent the day before the ride chilling and listening repeatedly and to distraction to the Swedish heavy metal band.
I cycled with the Clash's London Calling in a loop in my brain.
The next Tuesday at work, I could not get the Troll music out of my head.

I don't ride with music so find my head fills with whatever random and usually ridiculous tune it can find.. and then repeats over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over...

i just don't get this association of dodgy 80s hardcore with cycling. it's clearly so far removed.. cycling is a serene, ambient sort of thing ,with precision technology. For this reason, some geeky art-school yanks hitting guitars randomly and yelling a lot really has nothing to do with it at all.

Personal preference is Jay-Z & Linkin Park / Collision Course album.
Best track to ride to (on bike or sliding down a mountain) Numb/Encore.Alternatively the Worzels make good tunes as well!

for the rest of the day...... Iron Maiden, American Headcharge... basically
METAL

non of the ballad bullshit, not for riding. -

ahhh.... Hot Chip?
I saw the 'shellac' thread the other day and it got me thinking. What are the best tunes to cycle to, or the songs that you associate with riding.
For me it has to be a tune brought to us by Mr Albini from one of his earlier projects, 'Precious Thing' by Big Black.
Is there a more appropriate song for going as fast as you possibly can?
