it might be nothing to do woth the saddle, might be saddle height or position..especially if you're whacking your gooch......
-
• #29
the best thing to do is buy the one that looks the best
looking good is far more important than being comfortable

Yeah, could be. I had a similar problem a while back and dropped by seat post down about 1.5cm and no pain whatsoever now.

If you are looking for something comfy, you might wanna speak to Ivan of OCW fame.

You do need to try a few, but it makes sense to optimise the "money spent" vs "chance of finding your saddle" tradeoff. As such, can I suggest you start with a San Marco Rolls. They don't suit everyone but they're definitely down the comfy end of the spectrum and the tend to suit a lot of people. Plus, Parker International have them on sale around the £18 mark at the minute and they can be typically had around the £20 mark.

just done 600k's in 3 days on a fizik arione - it's quite a long saddle so you can shift around during long rides and really sit back into it on climbs

Hi, I did the bridges ride also- my first major ride in months since I stopped messengering. I'd been having issues with my Swallow after it got wet; this combined with wearing incorrect garments meant me going into hopsital under GA for the removal of an abscess 2 days after the ride. Still suffering.
Its meant me going back to my old ISM ADAMO. I got it due to discomfort from working 10hrs daily on the bike and it really saved me. It gives your meat and veg the feel and sensation of air conditioning- essential for your soldiers to come out of the barracks in years to come. It initially feels weird by taking the pressure off your perennial nerve and putting it in a non sensitive area.
Otherwise the SDG I beam Bel air is pretty cushy

I thought "gooch" was one's old trouser snake?
anyhow, a numb penis is common with brooks saddles, once you wear them in, your sit bones make dents in the saddle which means you then get the hard bits giving gyp to your soft bits.
after riding a B17 for over 18 months it's only now that I find myself back in saddle confusion land.
the brooks yesterday made me want to murder every living thing in the pacific ocean, today a spesh toupe 143 only made me want to ride a bit longer before maiming some sea cucumbers and possibly inconveniencing a shoal of bass.

Agreed . . Spoon also real good, but agree with whoever said not to be afraid of narrow saddles, the comfiest one i have/ever had is a Specialized toupe gel team:
i reckon its what goes on the seat. i got rid of my pants and started rockin lycra and a padded fox short on my hard as fuck njs seat. no more chafery. ditch the cotton boxers
