DutchCyclistD is trying to far too hard.
I think they use the latest technology because it makes them, hmm - now this is a shot in the dark - perhaps faster? The equipment that elite cyclists use isn't developed by scientists/engineers just for fun. The costs involved in developing any product is huge and a business won't fork out for something that doesn't work and won't sell.
