  • you win the prize for the most contradictory post so far this year.

if 5 cogs and 1 ring is all you need, then why does everyone in the TDF and one day classics ride a standard road doubles with a 10/11 speed cassette?

don't be afraid of change. i have a two geared bikes, one has a 1970s close ratio 5 speed cassette, 15-20 and 42:53 on the front. the other has a 12:25 and 39:53. i know which one i'd prefer to ride up ventoux on.

Yes, all of those riders are sponsored, why do you think, riders in Paris-Roubaix, rode on carbon Zipp wheels??? do you think that was the choice of the riders? of course not, the latest products, have to be showed in those big races. I am an elite cyclist my self, and on the flats (and even slightly hilly) i only need 5 gears, with 1 plateau, lets say a 53 - 12- 14- 16- 18 - 20 and in a RACE on lets say ventoux this would be fine to with a 36 plateau, and for the contradiction, i have to admit (not willingly) that in road racing nowadays you nead gears, but still the purest form of cycling racing imo is trackracing on fixed (thats why i am going to concentrate on the track)
