if 5 cogs and 1 ring is all you need, then why does everyone in the TDF and one day classics ride a standard road doubles with a 10/11 speed cassette?
don't be afraid of change. i have a two geared bikes, one has a 1970s close ratio 5 speed cassette, 15-20 and 42:53 on the front. the other has a 12:25 and 39:53. i know which one i'd prefer to ride up ventoux on.
