I would reccomend you go try one out before you buy,
I have two road bikes, one a 80s raleigh fixie conversion with really basic parts and 27 wheel.
the other a 60's 5 speed coventry eagle with steel wheels, steel bars, mudguards etc.
Charge plug outweighed em both.
I was thinking of getting one too, but for me they are shockingly heavy.

Stop slating my bike just cos you did 5 metres on it after critical mass :)

I'm 6ft and have a medium, i find it a pretty perfect fit, i agree about the stem though switched to a shorter one and so much better. yeah they are a bit heavy, but as RPM says bombproof or as hillbilly and I say Indestructabike :-)

I managed to smash in to a car at about 23mph, and all I had to replace was my forks(that snapped because I put some full carbon ones on) the frame was fine.
I'm about 5'9" and have a Medium, but beware they do tend to come up a little big. -

If hillbilly had metal forks on it, he would've cut the car in half. :)

what would be an better alternated? suicide-bombproof?
how about something relevant?
'hardy'
'resilient'
'robust'
'sturdy'
'indestructible'
even 'Suitable for London's streets'despite the apparent plethora of unexploded munitions in the surrounding area, i find it highly unlikely that the claim 'bombproof' for bike bits will ever be tested in a real-life situation.

haha,
not slating, the plug was just surprisingly heavy.
Might be a good thing for a lot of people whoe are either big, or into that fix-gear-free styling shenanigans..
I think a lot of off the peg ones are simarlarly heavy, I was looking at a schwinn madison but everyone says that weighs a ton aswell.
The Bianchi pista is made of plain guage steel so I imagine thats heavy although I havent felt one.

Slightly OT but a work colleague has just bought a new Plug (very nice it is too).
He complained about it being a bit spinny, my immediate response was HTFU but on looking at his bike they've fitted 42T chainring as standard. This is like 63 GIs with 18T freewheel - seems too spinny to me.
Is this normal?
-
• #186
I think 42T and 16T is a decent size to be honest, especially in London.
I came down from 52-16, then 46-16, and now 48-19, the 48-19 is spinny after using the bigger size but after a while i got used to it.
-
• #187
Yeah but 42x16 is 71 GIs (by my calcs). 42x18 = 63.
Can you get different toothed freewheels? Sounds like a 16T is the answer.

I was thinking about getting one but the weight put me off and i opted for the Kona Paddy Wagon and i'm 6'4"
They do look bombproof though, though i still prefer riding something lighter

Interesting, is this the new 2008 Plug? my (2007) plug had 42 x 16 as standard, and i've gone down to a 15 on the back now.

i'm 178cm ( about 5''10') which size should i pick?
could i go with a small? -
• #191
^^probably, I'm 6"2 so I got a large, but a medium would probably have been better for me

could i go with a small?Go find a shop that has them in stock and go for a test or come along to either south, east or west drinks and have a go on mine. its a M, TBH I think a S would be to small for you unless you have pigmee legs.

The funny thing is, the Bianchi Pista is heavier than the Plug, and I mean noticably heavier, even with all the bit and piece the Plug have, it's still lighter than a Pista.

I'm 5"10 and have the M... which is about perfect for me. It's probably a good idea to have a spin on one first though.
-
• #195
I'm about 5'9 and even the S (dont ask me why they size their bikes this way) was much too big for me. The charge sizing is really strange.
I think I have short legs... but yeah most places allow you to take one for a spin.
Try a few different ones out unless youre settled on a plug.

Hi, first time poster here.
I have been stalking the forums in preparation for buying a bike and and found a lot of helpful information, so thanks.
This table, which I have also seen on the charge web site only goes as small as 's'. However, on the Charge web site, the plug is listed as being available in 'xs'.
Anyone know anything about Charge being available in xs and where I could try one out?
Is xs usually a 15" frame?I am 5'2" female and struggling to find an OTP that I like but may end up having Brick Lane Bikes build me something sized perfectly based on their own frame. The thing is that they won't get more smaller sized ones in for about a month and the nice weather in London is making me antsy. Also, my workplace is supposed to start cycle to work scheme and I may need to do it OTP.
Thanks...

To add to the mix, I'm 6'1" and have a large. Tried a medium and to my monkey like arms it felt too crowded, the extra 2cm gives me a place to stretch out...

Me again...
Just some further info to share. First I called Brick Lane bikes and they said it doesn't come in XS. Next, I called Hot Wheels, the UK distributor for Charge. They said that the new Plugs do come in XS and that Brick Lane Bikes and Evans should have them and that they were sending a big order out to Brick Lane Bikes soon. I called BL back and they reluctantly took my name to contact me when they come in but that they had none in stock. It's not listed on Evans web site.

I've got a small, I'm 5'8", and it's a little on the big side......
but i'm hard as shit, so it doesn't bother me. -

I got the medium, it seems an exact fit. I'm used to a longer stretch on the top-tube, but it doesn't feel cramped, especially after I lowered the stem, which also nudges it forward a bit. Were I an inch taller I'd be inclined to go large though (although this might be awkward with the higher top-tube as a result of greater seat-tube length) I mailed Charge about the sizing and they said I was between M and L, recommending the L for aesthetic reasons. It's a terrific bike, would happily buy another (I'm 5'11" with 31.5" inner-leg incidentally)
Your comments seem to indicate medium for me and that's what the bike joint have recommended (I'm a "short" 5'11"). Looking forward to getting my ride on, cheers!
