  • As a social experiment we should strap BMMF to a chair in front of QVC and see how long it is before we see him clad top to toe in Epiphany platinum clad diamoniques, floral sequined jackets, stack wedged healed shoes and a spot print 3 piece make up and wash bag...

VB I see your arguments but I believe BMMFs gripes (and those of others) are with the big boys on a larger scale.
In marketing and advertising terms what you have here is a hand printed poster for a farmers market, taped to the lamp post in a scenic suburb street (And in no way is that a bad thing) it's well intended, purposeful and relevant.
It's no Tesco's or Wal-Mart - exploiting people for hideous self reward and margins.

It is wrong when they exploite insecurities, but when a woman plays £160 for 25g of moisturiser to make her look younger; whilst she smokes and drinks like a man and doesn't exercise... who is the idiot? I'd sell that puppy fat all day long!

  • Ha - I almost took a job at QVC. Then I realised it is all shit & I would be a shit-seller, so I decided not to.

  • @villa-ru - how can you sleep at night with your head all messed up by your conscience ;) ?

@fred - that's all fine. I've got a lot on my plate at the moment. Not in the best mood. And good call on the adbusting and shit. I'm well aware of all that, but the feelings of cultural alienation still well up when I mingle with my public, especially in the summer, cos the number of branded idiots seems to increase tenfold.

I'm the caring sharing misanthropist :S

  • Hehe. I also don't have a TV. Probably for many of the same reasons as BMMF.

I guess that's why I reacted so badly. I thought I was doing a good thing by promoting something which I do think is pretty damn cool.

It's quite an achievement to get a magazine together, I remember doing it (just the one issue) and it was a lot of work, I really think the guys behind both ventures should get as much support as we can give.

  • Agreed, they both look good too with the right motivation behind them.....

If turning up to launch parties and drinking beer is what it takes to support these mags....I'll be doing my best.....

There you go again with you pernicious marketing. The whole forum thing is just a ruse to get me smoking menthols again. I hate you.

  • Hello!

I was chuffed at having a mention our journal The Ride up there!

If anyone's interested, what with all the talk of marketing and money and what not...
The Ride is going to be non-profit. We sold 6 adverts to cover printing costs just about.
As you will see they are nice folks who we like dealing with... who have very kindly backed a journal they've never seen, probably just because they know us and know we're really into bikes.

Sales of The Ride will pay for postage and packing and things like stickers. The rest I'm hoping to donate to www.re-cycle.org or another bike related charity. (Please let us know if you know of a good one).

I'd love to get a copy of Fixed, I'm off riding at Mountain Mayhem this weekend, so I'm out of town... the mag looks wicked from the cover and the spread I've seen! Yay for new bike things.

That's what we need to see - dedication. Thanks Winston.

Looking forward to seeing The Ride, Andrew. PM me your address and I'll send you over a copy as soon as we have it

    Send us one of yours!

  • Will do Sano, good luck.
