RJS, there's me, you, horatiotigre ... D0cA said he hasn't bought yet. This thread is slipping because it's not so active, maybe PM everyone else that has signed up?

If you're doing a group buy of cheap stuff, I may join in on the fun even though I won't be part of the building class. I wouldn't mind building a back wheel. Then I'd only be handle bars and stem away from a pub bike.

well only four minutes after yours otters but...bump.
er dudes...since we last "spoke" (see what I did there?) I've hooked myself up with a pair of those SJSC hubs. Will be building 36h Mavic Open Pro, also now in my possession. Otters you can get Open Pros - the modest gentleman's choice - for between 25 and 30 spots each. 25 will be difficult but it is possible (ie that's what I ended up paying). Silver too.
I've been told by SJSC I need 287mm spokes for rear and 288mm for front for a three cross - which means my own comprehension levels have now blown a gasket and I just hope this is right... sound right to you SBB Matt?

me too. i'm in for a group buy on spokes etc if it works out. I have 32h high flange dura ace hubs and (hopefully) Velocity deep v's to work with.

yeah - i'm definitely up for a group buy of hubs, if one's going to happen. my rear spacing is 120mm, front 100mm although i was just going to do the back for the time being... however, would be interested in getting both hubs if the price were right. not particularly fussed about what they are, either, as i don't really know enough to know the difference at the moment (or, ride them hard enough either?).
i was then (probably) going to get a deep-V from cavendish or holloway, although i'm currently being a bit indecisive about colours ;-) -

I'll give Cavendish/BLB etc a ring tomorrow and see if we get a discount if we buy 5 sets of Formula/IRO etc things - we can probably order rims too. I'll check feasibility first thing tomorrow, and then we can go from there. :-)
On a train to Madchester right now, so apologies if this message appears eighteen hundred times, since National Express' wifi is terrible, and my now ex-job have cancelled my datacard.

• #83
ah, i should have been clearer... i have my hubs but haven't got my deep Vs yet. so, please count me into group buy of these too. that'd be great. ta.
-
• #84
OK, so we're looking at 4 sets of hubs, some rims.
With IRO/SystemEx, I think that's ~240 quid for the hubs, 25-35 quid for the rims each. I'll ring Cavendish in the morning, and then a couple of other people and see whether they'd be interested in offering us a discount.
If you need anything different, then scream at me. If not, I shall PM people tomorrow if I have any success.

Damn, just realised I have a ticket for Hyde Park Calling on the 28th.
I don't suppose anyone in the Thursday class is sitting there secretly wishing they'd signed up for the Saturday one, are they?
-
• #90
OK, spoke to Cavendish and they said that "they're sure they can sort something out", depending on how much we order. I'm now going to PM everyone on the list above, and see what they need - if SBB isn't sorting spokes, or you'd like to try and get them through this too, then please let me know.
If you don't get a PM from me, then let me know!

Right, as I have realised that I am crazily skint and will be for the next few months, I am going to rebuild my current set of wheels that I got from Bling Bling.
The front is slightly dubiously built radially to the wrong holes. Does anyone who knows, think I will be able to re-use the spokes if they are laced to the other side? Should be the same length, maybe 1 or 2 mm different. Right?

Whenever is fine with me.
Daytime or eve?? -

@ jol- from my limited research on the topic of wheel building, it would appear that its better to use new spokes if you're re-lacing to a new pattern.especially if its dubiously built too!?

• #97
I sent everyone involved in the group buy a message, please get back to me ASAP!
Thanks,

how can it be radial in the wrong holes? unless right spokes are in the left hole?rjs, go through cyclebasket, ends up .27p per spoke for ACI double butted. i doubt cavendish can better that.

The afternoon session on Saturday 28th will start at 2pm. Hope that's okay for y'all.
From past experience of trying to arrange group buys, probably need 5 or so people if we're going to get much advantage.
I'm sort-of looking at Goldtec to Deep V, but might end up doing Formula/System-Ex to Deep V.
If there's only three of us, I don't know whether it's worth trying to arrange it - thoughts?
