  • you're not doing your homework. i've bought several large track frames for below £200, inc a £52 62cm langster, which was acutally a 57cm

Operative word is 'decent'. I have a functioning bike and have no particular desire to replace it with a tin can with gothic lettering on the side.

I'm also looking for something with proper track geometry for use down (wait for it...) the track. Which counts out a lot of the fixed-for-the-road frames that are being churned out these days. And a lo-pro would kill my back.

I'm not denying there's stuff out there if you just want to build up a bike, but if you want something specific then prices tend to get very high, very quickly.

  • O-ops, actually, i do exactly the same thing! ;)

I know that guy in person, his name is Matt, really nice chap! I think he does a real nice job finding all that nice Campag gear...

But there is a few reasons why taking the parts apart instead of selling a complete bike is better.

First, of course, is more profitable.

Second, shipping a complete bike is a real pain, and insanely expensive!

you're right, i know. i've bought off him before as well. i'm just bitter because i know the pantographed stuff is going to go for silly money.

the stuff they have is amazing.

there is a big difference between you being a very picky bastard and suppposedly nothing on ebay for good money!!! ;)

  • Hah! A few years ago you used to be able to pick some really nice frames up for next to nothing, but I was broke then and could only afford what I'm riding now.

But yeah, if you're willing to pay you can get stuff... Bring on the apocalypse, I'm hoping I'll be able to get a decent frame sooner rather than later.

  • Try Jos, he has some nice frames for about £250-300 depending on the condition

I gonna be putting a frame on the forum later today for £200, it's a size large Brian Rourke

was it the pink one from the kent jumble? i was tempted to by it but it was a bit big for me

  • was it the pink one from the kent jumble? i was tempted to by it but it was a bit big for me

    Ha, Me too!

  • it was a good price, did you by anything?

  • NOS to me simply means something never used.

Usually something stuck in a shop for years, covered in dust, dried up grease, a few scratches and sometimes a little rust.

  • Yes it is!

The components were not that great but at least the frame and wheels were nice - couldn't resist!

good stuff,i picked up a few bits and pieces, wasnt a bad jumble

  • What about grahaminlondon?

I remember him coming up in a thread as he was trying to sell a cracked frame, and generally has a reputation for ripping people off.

He is also thought to be Graham of drummondbikeslondon bikes the £350 shitters on ebay now

  • it was a good price, did you by anything?

Yeah, A beater wheelset, some red brake cable and red toe straps, innertubes and tyres.

So so tempeted by that bike but was a little big. Limited myself to £100 spending mony cos if i had more in my pocket i would have spent it and i dont have it!!!

Good work for picking it up Roberto, I spotted you there but having never met you thought it'd be stupid to say hello! but in hindsight maybe it was silly not saying hello! i dunno

  • Avoid this guy in Amsterdam: cicli-raffa

The guy kept me guessing and waiting, even promising a refund for an item that he had probably never sent. By the time I got so pissed off with being messed about it was too late - the 45 day Paypal deadline for claims had passed... of course that was also about the time that he had stopped answering any of my emails.

  • Hey i know both Graham and cicli-raffa and they are decent people.

Honestly mostly of you have no idea how much hassle selling online can be.

    Example one:

Sold a £200 frame to someone in Austria. Spent £35 to send it using Parcel Force International Standard, which is a lot to me, considering that to send a frame US to UK costs about 50-60 US dollars.

I have a tracking number, but it only works while the package is within UK. Basically, you pay a lot of money for a really bad service. When the package leaves England, there is no way to track it, unless you use Global Priority service, which costs about £10 more.

Buyer never received the frame. I really sent it and have the receipt.

Buyer opens a dispute on Paypal. I provide the tracking number that Parcel Force gave me, and give a copy of the receipt.

Paypal closes the dispute and refunds the buyer the payment, causing me a loss of £270.

I appeal, and Paypal replies that the receipt doesn't match the buyers address. I have a look at it carefully, and realizes that the Post Office wrote "4115" instead of "4/15", but jesus, does that make a big difference?

Anyway, a few days ago got a call from Parcel Force. Package was sent back to UK, and is now again on the way to Austria!

I ended up losing the item itself and £270...

    Case 2:

Sent some package in december, buyer never got it.
He tries to open a dispute on Paypal, but since it passed over 45 days, Paypal couldn't help.

I really sent the package and have the original receipt, which has a compensation of £36. Went to the Post Office to file a claim.

In about march or april, can't remember, finally Royal Mail sent me a cheque of £36, which i contacted the buyer and sent the ammount thru Paypal - he couldn't believe i remembered.

But it only took about 4 months!

    Example 3:

Sold a saddle (£40) to someone in London. Buyer pays using Paypal. I send the item.

After a few days, Paypal, for security reasons, holds the payment back. Some issues with the buyers account, whatever.

I contact Paypal saying that the item has been sent and provide the tracking number, trying to make the transaction gets unblocked asap so i can have my £40!

    Receive this today:

"We have conducted a review of a payment that you received. In this case, returning the funds to the sender was determined to be the appropriate action"

Again, i sent the today, the buyer received it, but Paypal decided to block the payment! Now, i have to chase this guy to get £40!

At least he lives in London :)

Suggest you guys try to sell on eBay sometimes - start with a frame or a pair of wheels! :)

  • ^ Cases like that have totally put me off selling on eBay. PayPal seem to favour the buyer over the seller every single time. Also, I was accused of money laundering and they demanded that I provide them with loads of my personal information, confirm my debit cards and bank details. They wouldn't let me close my account until I did :-/

  • Paypal is really shit sometimes.
I got feedback from a buyer once after sending item, he used a false name, set up a paypal account with someone elses card, paypal took the money back off me, I sent them an email saying it shouldn't be my problem as the buyer had an authorized account, they said I had to pay and took the amount again by mistake! Took me months to get it back and get the crooks eBay account shut down. I had a terrible dealing with them.Paypal is really shit sometimes.

You can't let it effect you though because eBay is so great! Just gotta be cautious...

I have and I understand the risks.

However, when someone offers to give you a refund minus shipping and you accept their offer, you pretty much expect to get that refund. If this person appears only to have done this to make the process take longer and string you along, and then ignores every polite email you send... what then?

  • you're not doing your homework. i've bought several large track frames for below £200, inc a £52 62cm langster, which was acutally a 57cm

I have never managed to get a bargain on ebay. As soon as I find something, every other bastard bids on it and puts the price up. Even my snipes don't work. Everything I buy is now pretty much brand new from shops I got so fed up with it!

  • This thread is awful, just awful, mob justice at it's best.

If someone has a bad week or fucks up somehow or the Royal mail fuck up their delivery, how long does it take for them to get off your internet 'arseholes' list ?

Ha ha ha ha ha ha really made me laugh out loud !!!

There are always two sides to every story, these kinds of threads tend to be final/absolute without allowing the accused to put their side of the story over. They may disagree with the description of what went down, they may even agree with what went down, but even here there may be mitigating circumstances.
