I had a secret crush on falling leaves, and have now made the first move...
nice one bmmf, if nothing else it makes the poll look prettier ;)

And it's yellow, which is a suitable visual metaphor for all the non-H'dTFU fallen-leaves eschewers.

• #79
that's no coincidence BMMF!
-
• #80
I'm so bleedin excited about this now, cheers jonny!

I am totally up for an early start. If it takes as long as the Cambridge ride it is a shame to get there late. People should HTFU. I can't see the problem with getting up and out for 7 am!
Early start no problem, I write the whole day off with these rides anyway, so I might as well start early.

Hi guys... forgive me for asking a newbie question, but are you guys doing these rides on fixed gear bikes??? I did Falling Leaves last year with a geared bike, I can't imagine doing it fixed or SS!
-
• #83
most of the rides on here are fixed, but you can come on whatever you like, plenty of people doing stuff geared.
-
• #84
I might stave off the fixing of the CS for this one, I don't think I'd be pulling it off without gears if it's any hillier than the Cambridge roll. Looks like spires, signed up for oysters, gonna be brilliant no matter what..cheers Jonny.

as my last question remained unanswered.
Is there going to 2 or 3 separate groups of different pace/ability on the ride or will it be a 200yd long10mph rolling roadblock? -
• #86
I guess that depends on the amount of people.

as my last question remained unanswered.
Is there going to 2 or 3 separate groups of different pace/ability on the ride or will it be a 200yd long10mph rolling roadblock?sorry mr. smith, as eyebrows said, it kind of depend on who shows up on the day - and what legs they bring with them. don't worry, we will wait for you though ;)

i'm not trying to make out i'm super fast. :-)
but the idea of rolling along in a group* at 17mph appeals, taking 8 hrs to get to cambridge doesn't*roadie style
-
• #89
cool smithers, i reckon on an around 17mph average. we have pulled off a couple of decently paced rides recently, what with the last brighton and southend rides. the peloton will no doubt concertina a bit and there may be some waiting to be done for the true roadies. but hopefully not much. there are spires to be dreamed about, and celebratory Gs waiting.

I quite like it when the pack gets spread out. I sit right out the back for a while then spend ten minuets playing catchup at full speed.
-
• #91
Good job Jonny, Looking fwd to the ride/company and beer.
-
• #92
i'm already panning a lone breakaway somewhere around abingdon, and i'll bring it in to oxford alone, and will be waiting with a pint in my hand for you lot to turn up
-
• #93
been doing a lot of training then James?
or is your dad following in the car..
-
• #94
don't 'james' me mate.
i tell you, every ten miles you ride round these parts is worth 30 in the London. it's fucking murder out here.
-
• #95
voted oxford but not too bothered really.
-
• #96
show me a pedometer map of your current training ride then, Jimmy-boy
-
• #97
looking forward to seeing nimbhus and rpm duel it out on the blacktop. worth the admission price alone ladies and gentlemen
-
• #98
i'm not in training. obviously i won't be doing any breakaways. the truth is i haven't been riding as much as i like, partly due to some personal shit that has been going on, but partly due to the fact that it really IS fuckign murder round here, hillwise. i have found a 6.5 mile circuit round some quiet back lanes, which is of course roughly the same distance as RP, but - i kid you not - 1 lap of this is a fuck sight harder than a trundle round RP. I generally only do 2, and that takes it out of me as much a 4 RP laps would.
I miss RP, it's the best cycling resource around. the landscape round here is heaven for climbers, but there's never any flats. it's up then down, up then down. no breaks. i have tried riding geared, but i hate it, i can climb better on fixed. -
• #99
i might ride to portsmouth next week to get some miles done
-

up and down like a brides nightie - such is the landscape men are sculpted from nimbhus. you are a lucky man.
i thought you were just in surrey somewhere? is leith hill your drive way or something?
i did half the falling leaves route last weekend and am looking forward to doing the whole thing some time. i wasn't down there cycling it just turned out the route was ideal for some trees i was going to look at. it will happen. all these rides will happen, but yeah i think the Falling Leaves is the toughest of them.
start time will be sorted once reconnaissance complete. we will be making a day of it l's and g's.
