Is this the best name ever for a female specific bike shop?
It's the original name of Archie's Grobags. I believe it will be ressurected in the future for an upcoming top secret project.

And there was me thinking it was just my face that they objected too (not that much though, they were pleased enough to get my dough). Sorry to hear of your bad experiences too 20. By the way, I have deleted my post for various reasons, mainly due to it may have coming across a bit strong (there were no embelishments, but may not be the best of tones for an open forum). Those that read it and responded, you know my thoughts of the place....

i was there today and they were all smiles for once. usually they are so rude it is actually funny. i think it's because today i wasn't asking questions. they seem to get upset if you make them do any work.
oh yeah, and I spotted all-white gran compe tyres for... wait for it... £46.99 each!!!!!!! wowzer!

I went in there once and once only. I was looking to buy a track bike and when I said I wanted to pay around £500 for something to use at HH, the shop assistant started looking down her nose at me, pointed me at a couple of bikes and then spent her time fawning over some idiot who wanted an all-pink bike he'd never ride for a grand. I walked out and spent £450 on a sweet track bike from ebay. For South London types Brixton Cycles and Edwardes in Camberwell are both great shops.

I visited London last week and made a bee-line to visit BLB to get some inspiration and buy some bits. I was pointed in the direction of an American (i think) female who told me she didn't have any Sugino 75 chainrings in 48T as the American Importer's don't send that size which I thought was quite odd. Sacked the rest of my want-list as she then offered me a 46T. Bought a 48 of Hubjub this week, arrived today... sweet! And that will probably be my only dealings with BLB.

Checked out Cavendish Cycles this week for the first time, have to say the customer service was excellent, much better experience than with BLB.

draper 15mm spanner @BLB = a tenner,
draper 15mm spanner @my local hardware store = £2.50thumbs down to BLB again.
there is one lady in there who ccan raise a smile. everyone else is gruff and grumpy. such a shame.

So why do you go there????
-
• #110
i have never been in blb, been past once.
however if id id go in i like to think they would treat me like shit so why don't we draw up a petition to get better service in there and stop charging for air, get everyone to sign hand it in, surely they can't ignore over a hundred people who actively avoid their shop.
oh but it is cool to be ignorant. sorry forgot

they wouldn't give a toss about a petition. just don't shop there.

It's the epicenter of the slave-trade, the white 3-spok in the window confirms that.
Personally I like that blue Rossin they have, and the main (Polish?) gal's no-bullshit-bullshit.

FWIW, I quite like BLB. Their collective sense of humor is pretty good, if a little dry. If you don't get it, fine, it comes off as being superior etc. etc. But the fact is that they are surrounded by rich wannabe hipsters - (as my gf puts it) walking around with their pants on their heads in order to look cool. And these types will happily drop £1500 on a couple of bikes that they'll never ride. So Jan etc are busy serving, selling and taking the piss, which is exactly what you or I would do if we had do deal with "tristan and hannah" the trustafarian hipsters all day long.
But go in there mid week and it's a totally different story...

that must've explain why i got such a good service at BLB on a saturday even, I came in, with a shitty Peugeot that I've slowly converted into a fixie with some old and new part asking them to replace the BB and crank as I lack the experience and knowledge of changing those and rather pay someone else to do it.
who was that bloke with the very smart blondish/fair long goatee? cause he was rather nice and helpful.

that's Jan. top bloke. two other interesting things I notice recently - one, that lot's of people slate BLB but haven't really got a reason to other than it seems the thing to do (or they don't get the 50p for air thing, which was the funniest thing I'd heard for ages) - and two, some comments recently seem to intimate that this is like bike-shop wars (a la robot wars), where you have to sign a pledge of allegance to cavendish / BLB / BC / london fields etc. and then defend to the death....
I digress...
