For what it's worth, I agree with GrandeAnse2Grenville. Open exchange of information is what this internet thing is good for.
Maybe 'me' had a one-off bad experience OR maybe it's a trend that customers should be aware of as soon as possible. Either way it would seem he gave a fair account of the situation as he saw it.
And of course, people who have a good experience should be equally welcome to pipe up any time they like - and help balance out the karma. If the business in question wishes to include their 2p on this then I would expect there is nothing stopping them from doing so as well.
and we'd all be the better informed for seeing all that in one place...

Thing is though, everyone slags off Edwardes but me personally have got nothing but time and love for them. I've only been in about 6/8 times and for some unknown reason I always get a discount or a freebie - like last week, they gave me free rimtape.
Maybe they fancy me?! ;-) -

Me.. not having a go here, honest. but what point did you hope to get across with your post?
you say (at least) twice in the post that you had heard great things about BC on the forums, and then proceed to complain.
did you hope to change what is apparently an overall positive view of the place? with 1 bad story?
just askin.

Surely this is the third time in a week we've gone through this? Seems to me that people get so pissed off with bad service that they want to vent their anger on the forum, which isn't that unreasonable. But, the affect of venting (in terms of the shop's rep) might be disproportionate to the "offense" - catching someone on a bad day, one twat amongst generally good staff, genuine mistake......
It makes more sense to pursue the issue to whatever conclusion with the shop, and let them put it right, before going public. If they're still shit, I have no problem with sharing it with whoever.

I agree with dogs on this one. It's a joke. Brixton Cycles is not my local bike shop, it's true I go there every now and then and have bought quite a lot from them but I owe them no more allegance to any other shop that I've ever used.
The point is, how can you put a post on the interweb slating a shop for a piss poor performance when you admit that you won't even discuss your grievance with them? I've got two thing's to say about that:
Firstly, How can you honestly put up with such a poor service, if you genuinely feel like you were wronged in such a way then say something about it. You haven't given the shop a chance to make recompence for their (percieved) inactions. Get off you ass and do something about it rather than complaining to other people. If you are pissed off because of your own laziness then you need to re-asses your own priorities. Don't bitch about someone else doing nothing when you can't be bothered to do it yourself.
Secondly, Don't you think it's very selfish of you not to provide constructive criticism to BC. If there is a flaw in the service provided it would be better to talk to the shop rather than bitching to a small community like us. Yes, fair enough you've highlighted your disapproval to us, a website of 2000ish members and anyone who uses google and could be arsed reading the diatribe that we force upon the WWW each day. But, what about all of their potential customers who don't waste their lives on the internet? Talk to someone at the shop, send an anonymouse letter to the co-op. Do something about it so they can improve their service to everyone. Even if you can't be arsed trying to sort out your own dissappointment you can at least prevent a similar thing happening to someone else. Compassionate living, stop thinking about number one.

markyboy, you're right. Some small bike shops could well suffer at the hands of bad internet publicity, and with that thought in mind, I do agree that people should try to resolve things face to face in the shop, or by phone call or email.....before ever resorting to the internet walk of doom. Still, the right to express is something I feel strongly about, but maybe folks should weigh up the pros and cons to the business before that final step.

On another note I've emailed a link to this thread to someone I know who works at Brixton Cycles. Even if you can't be arsed to let them know of your dissappointment, as per the second point I made above, I can.
Nothing will ever get better if you just ignore it.

Maybe thats because your the one chatting away with them whilst i wait to be served? (joke!)
I have no opinion one way or the other on BC, been in there numerous times, never been blown away, and never been pissed off by them, though they did patch me up along time ago when i messed myself up in the bowl, so props to them for that.
But thats my point, if someone got arsey about my LBS then i would defend it, but the fact is everyone has their off days, and smaller shops who are matey with their regulars tend to polarise customers more than larger stores as it is easy to ignore cutomers without realising it. I spent 4+ years working in snowboard and skate shops all over the world, and the fact is you win some you loose some when it comes to customer service.
Whats important to me is how a shop responds to the issue, which from what i can tell why shops Like BLB have a bad name, and shops like BC a loyal following.
+1
BC is not my LBS but it used to be. Also several exengers that I know well work (and worked) there. I am good friends with the more senior co-op members, and I was a member of Brixton Cycles Club.
Did you seriously expect that you wouldn't get seriously flamed when you posted this thread? You need to either ask BC for their comments or delete yours. Just because they have given you bad service (something that everyone here agrees with, based on what you have said), does not give you the right to defame the shop without giving them the right of reply.
