He tried to get hold of the stuff with the lip at the time but couldnt, I ended up sending him some pink stuff, that already had the power pack at the end. Although there was a fuck load of extra wire that was on the end of the actualy El that was rather annoying,

Extra wire is no problem as you simply just snip off what you don't need, as the wire gets shorter it get's brighter (up to a certain threshold).

[EDIT] I just realised you probably meant loads of extra non-EL wire leading from from the powerbox to the start of the EL wire proper ?

You could also reduce that fairly easily.
