  • As mentioned in the T-shirt thread, a number of us think that a long sleeve merino jersey with some sort of LFGSS logo would be a great thing to have for the colder / winter months. Given the amount of time that the T-shirts took from the initial idea to being ready to order, now seems like about the right time to get the ball rolling.

The kind of jersey that I'm looking at is the classic one colour long sleeve with a white, or other coloured, band around the middle. This is where the text we choose would go. Portland Cyclewear (thanks to tommid for finding these) in the States has some really good offers, getting down to $43 per top, if we order over 30, which should be easy enough given the response to the T-shirts from everyone. I'm not sure how much extra the embroidery would add to the cost of each shirt, no doubt this is linked to the size of the work.

Anyway, at this stage that's not too important, the main thing right now is choosing a logo or text, the font and size of what should fill the white band on the jerseys. I'll set up some voting when we've had plenty of good designs in.

The jerseys should look something like the ones below

  • Roll on winter - I've got chills and they're multiplying!

  • Ooooh i'm liking this idea.....

    goes off to fetch crayons!

  • count me in for one, in black! but there is one of the london single speed ones for sale on e-bay at the moment! check the typeface on that, but how about the classic mercyx lettering!

  • Yeah i'm in. Me love merino ;)

    Chris

  • just reminded me... theres a sale of at field and trek in covent garden picked up some baselayers.
if youre shopping for merino etc...20% off.

I grabbed the last of the small sizes..... woop woop

  • Count me in too! I suggested this as an alternative when the tshirt thing was getting off the ground - having both is better!

BTW last time I mentioned it a couple of people voiced concerns over portland cyclewear, has anyone tried any of their stuff?

  • There are mixed reports about the quality of those Portland jerseys (possibly discussed on another thread), but for $43, I'd think about it. Black, mind.

  • click it

  • I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but I seem to remember that a group buy from Portland on FGG a couple of years ago didn't go well. The service and quality was v poor and there were also Chinese sweatshop issues IIRR. Surely they could be sourced from the UK?

  • we could get plain ones and then use indigo to embroider, or something like that.

  • I'm more than happy for them to be sourced elsewhere, that's not the issue at the moment. Portland were just a suggestion, I think that the style is great but I would much rather get them from the UK, having to deal with the customs charges, VAT, duty, blah blah blah, is going to be really inhibiting to the smooth running of this.

I'll keep looking for a better source, the design is what we need to sort out first anyway so keep them ideas coming.

  • fwiw, I'd rather we went with portland now for $43 than spend a few weeks discussing alternatives before the idea eventually fizzles out.

Hypothetically speaking, if we were to agree a design and stick an order in right now with portland, who'd be in? Just to get an idea of numbers like...

    love merino jerseys.

  • It's not going to be $43 at the end of it all though, we need to pay shipping, various taxes, cost of embroiding (which depends on the design, hence why that comes first). $43 is what we would pay if picked them up from Oregon directly and had nothing on them.

    In that case, I'm out.

  • Can't you use vegan materials. Damn my ethics!

  • $43 for a Merino wool jersey sounds a bit cheap to me.

Group buy of Lorica thongs anyone?

Merino sheep are actually a form of potato, so you'll be fine.

That's basically like it being £43 in the UK and is about half the price per unit compared to getting a smaller order. $43 is for orders above 30, it seems pretty reasonable to me. Anyway, I'm looking for some geographically closer options.

I don't think they have to kill the morino's to get the wool off them. If they did it at the start of summer i'm sure the little fella's would be glad to loose the winter coat. So see it's super animal friendly.

  • Well, once the ethic/quality issues are sorted, where do we send the designs?
Just post them in this thread?

I can't believe that you're actually right. I thought this must be some form of interweb based pisstake but the world wide web has got your back

Now Tiger, don't get me started on a RANT.
