I'm thinking a red strip up the seat tube for a rear light
EL can't generate red (only blue/green/white as far as I know, I don't know the technical limitations or reasons) - but you can obviously run white and gel it red (or any colour you want).
build my own invertor to run off a LiPo rechargeable battery which could drop in the seat tube and weigh considerably less than what you have
If you pull this off let me know as I am a bit crap at all that kind of carry on, I usually find something close and backward engineer it to what I want, I don't think I have enough brainage to work with Li-Po (!!!! do you mean Li-ion??).
. . or a none contact dynamo type system driven off the rear wheel (intensity will vary with speed quite a bit though).
I never like the idea of something compromising the ride, as trivially as it may !

that is the best thing i have seen on this forum. tynan you are a genius
It's true, I am !!
All I did was wrap someone else's product around my seatpost and I am treated like a king, I like it, don't stop, please don't stop, did I ever tell you I built my frame by hand from horse hair and baby saliva, please love me, please love me. :)

Yep I meant Li-Ion not polymer. something like a pair of 18650 cells would give 7.2V and plenty of capacity to power a small sheet for ages for about 90g, you just need an invertor to run off that voltage, or one to run of 3.6v and you could get the whole setup for under 100g and not have to worry about balancing cells for recharging.

Back when i was working as a toy designer we did some stuff with el
its really fun, cant tell you what we made though cause its top secretthe seat post is brilliant though, just enough for a splash of pure BLING

looks awesome tynan.
as long as the power source and inverter doesn't kill your cock and balls i'm loving it...
haha !! :D That is a possibility, apparently EL gives your cock 'n' balls combo AIDs !

Do you think you could get the inverter narrow enough to slide down the seatpost ?
I reckon I can, but like I say I would just be taking apart an inverter and reassembling it with a bit of chopping and soldering. -

http://electroluminescence-inc.com/ELtape.htmFuck me upside down with a pair of giant English cocks ! That's great stuff, I have never seen it as a tape, I imagine it is the same stuff but in a strip and an adhesive backing - that would have been ideal for my original plan which was to the make a EL rim - with the inverter zipped tied to the hub (rotational mass and all that).
Cheers for the link.

Whoa there big head! Tis true...it is just someone else's product wrapped around a seatpost, but it's a good idea nonetheless. When you spend top dorrah on lovely frames the last thing you want to do is clutter it up with lights with shabby brackets. Although it's not the simplest of setups (I mean by installation) it looks clean. And that's the main thing, no??

Thought you'd like it.
It has got me + my chemist friends thinking. I think the next step is full on chemiluminescence....
Or GFP maybe.
Basically, EL is one thing, but I think we can do away with the wires.....
But i fscking love this idea, and am a bit bored of revision, so thinking up some ideas.... -

Yeah !! The reason I want to shove the the power/inverter down the seat tube it to get it out of the way, keep it simple/clean.
Maybe I am a genius after all? I did come 40th in an art contest once, surely that's got to be a fucking sign, no ?

I reckon I can, but like I say I would just be taking apart an inverter and reassembling it with a bit of chopping and soldering.Yes I do, I reckon you could get the lot inside the seatpost with a bit of though, then just pull the seat post out and plug a charger into the base of it to recharge the battery!
