that's simply brilliant, biggest concern is how strong is it to support a whole weight?
secondly, would it be possible to dim the brightness a bit simply by using a smaller voltage battery (thus smaller) and some adjustment to dimmer it?

that's simply brilliant,
Why thank you, if you carry on like that I will have to put you on my Christmas card list. :)
biggest concern is how strong is it to support a whole weight?
No problemo, it is a very strong alloy seatpost (Thomson) the kind large muscley mountain bikers jump over logs and fly down mountains on.
It is only the very surface of the post that emits light (around 0.42mm).
condly, would it be possible to dim the brightness a bit simply by using a smaller voltage battery (thus smaller) and some adjustment to dimmer it?
Yes, the brightness is reliant on the input voltage and the area of the surface you are illuminating - but I don't mind it being so bright, I was just pointing out that I was surprised just how bright it turned out, not complaining.
And yes a dimmer would work also, the inverter I am using has a switch to make it flash on and off and a small dial to control the speed of the flash, you can take it right up to about 80hz, it looks surreal when it is at full pelt, but I suspect any epileptic cyclists or car drivers behind you might not like that !!! :)

that is amazing can you make it red and only half half of it emitting light if you only paint half

That was my initial idea !! Front half white, rear half red.
It is a simple case of applying some red gel.

So....When can I place an order?

better get down the patent office

Imageshack is the worst hosting site around, but like an old and battered 30 quid hooker I keep going back.
Let's try photobucket . . . .

Looks great but does it really need to be attached to that NS10M?

Mint! Wikipedia doesn't have an entry for "electroluminescent light" - pray tell us more - how does it work?!

Leave the quotes around the phrase, it is the first hit in Google. >> [ame=http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=%22electroluminescent+light%22&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8]Google results[/ame]

Basically it is witchcraft.

that is fucking awesome, just the pinnacle of die-hard slave conquest.

From WIKI
"Electroluminescence is the result of "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radiative_recombination in a material"
Your bike is radiative!!!!!!

can you paint your knob and do the same thing?? btw, thats for rpm, he's kinda shy about these things ;)

We had a guy come in and show us all his electroluminescent wares for show stands and advertising.
I started thinking along bike lines (as usual) too. Think this could add up to some interesting development in the bike world. The only thing I remember with the stuff he showed was that it made a noise depending on brightness.
Great work though. -

Can I have my bars white and my seatpost red for the Saturday night ride, please Mr T? Never remember lights anyway.

DIY
http://www.surelight.com/ecom/EL_Panel_Eval_Kit_-_large.aspThey are about the most expensive around, you can get EL sheets and inverters for a fraction of what they knock them out for if you shop around.

I'll second that. Tynan, it's genius I love it.

that is fckn sick!! as said above...get patent and put your name on it quick! oh, that battery pack would be a bother
id go for a thin line of red (10mm of clear red cellophane?) at the back

Great work though.Cheers, yes it will give off a high pitched noise, but it is fairly quiet, you have to stick your ear to it to hear it.
My new seat post - 360° electroluminescent light, it turned out brighter than I thought and bluer than I thought (it was meant to be white). I am quite surprised just how bright it is in moderate light.
Some pictures with the thing switched off - kind of looks pale pink when switched off, some with it switched on with the room lights on, then with the room lights dimmed and one in total darkness.
It's not quite finished as I am making a smaller inverter/power source based on those little 3V button batteries so I can shove it down the seat post - at the moment I am driving it from the 6V that I get from the little inverter which you can see on the saddle (which does just about fit under the saddle).
