finding it hard to get 27s in an acceptable width, i/e 1 inch, may have to go bontrager 1 1/4, they have a fairly narrow carcass.
need a brooks for the stokes path frame. for the others, anything comfy.

nope, it's a narrowness thing.
1/14 = 28mmish
1" = 25ish
i ordered some panaracers with kevlar from SJS, only for them to call me and say they have been discontinued.
maybe tubs is the way forward.

mutilation is possibly the right word there.

very difficult indeed to get a 27" tyre in 1inch, let alone 3/4. nigh on impossible, in fact. may have to go tubular.

you probably paid too much for you bike too (sorry!) what with the 'added value' of customer service and fitting advice included in the price.

could have been a lot of bike shops on the wrong day, to be honest. of course some are better than others, but i find that overall, the default position of your standard bike shop assistant is ' what? fuck off.'
this also applies, in my experience, to music technology shops, and specialist record shops. basically anywhere that employs enthusiasts is going to suffer from said enthusiasts resenting the fact that they have to work there.
i expect fishing shops, motorcycle shops etc are just the same.
cunts.

There are two girls who work in BLB. One is always really really nice, the other is more often or not a bit moody. Everyone else there seems really nice though.
Funniest was a guy on this forum who went into his local bike shop asking for a certain Crank ( cant remember what ). The guy said 'What are you a courier or something?' when he said 'No' guy said, 'Well why do you want to buy this crank. Are you trying to be one?' And pretty much refused to serve him.
Whats all that about? -

I went into BLB on Saturday to see about them building me a new bike up. I realise that saturday is probably not the best day to get quality service as it will be the busiest day, but the service was terrible.
I walked in and had a look around at the bikes they had built up and they were all too small, so I asked one of the girls if they had the largest of their own frames in so I could try it for size. "No" was the answer, and she walked of to rearrange the second hand brake levers on the wall. Fair enough that may have been the case, but there was no "would you like to try this as it is similar", or "no, but we are building one later today".
I am not sure what the issue is with the shop. Do you have to know a secret hand shake to get good service? They must be making so much money dealing with people who don't mind bad service to care about those who do.
The service in Cavendish Cycles is the complete antithesis. Friendly staff who want to help.
