  • nah i'm well out of (cycling) shape these days. i'm just a commuter. L2B is the longest thing i've done in years. back when i was cabbing you could do 50 miles a night though. i quit pedicabbing in 2001. it was weird riding a recumbant quad though because your upper body gets absolutely no work out at all. it just sits there sweating. you could steer with your pinkies. so your quads and calves got massive and your upper body just got really skinny and wasted. not a hot look! arf.

  • I Ignored this threat first time around. Then today:

Who knows how long it'll hold out (any guesses). It's big enough that I worry the tube pressure is just going to split it... If that doesn't happen after a week or so, I'm just going to put some anti-puncture tape in and see how well of a job that does.

  • My Armadillo rear tyre has looked like this for months now.. still no p_nct_re..

  • I reckon that rubino will last out. I keep mine until they go bang, at which point you can see daylight through them when you hold them up to the light.

  • I posted this before, i know... my Rubino Pro got a big cut like a week after i put it on, i fixed it up using some innertube, a piece of semi-hard clear plastic, and glue from the inside of the tire..
I used it like that for 2-3 months until it looked like in the photo, didn't have any problems.. And i agree, that rubino will last out :)

  • While I ain't willing to jinx anything here, may I suggest any tyres you want + kevlar lining = awesome

  • My Lithions have done 1000m+ now and only one puncher - sticking with Michelin - I have a set of MADillos 700 x 25s that have done 300-400 miles - anyone can have them for free - pick up from **White City **or N12. PM me if you want them

  • Spesh roubaix armadillo elites are lovely, lovely tyres. Reasonably good rolling and haven't had one puncture yet.

  • Yeah but where do you ride, how far, how often, when, how much do you weigh, how well do you keep your tyres inflated, how are you at avoiding glass, blah, blah, there's too many variables involved.. the only constant is that Conti's are shit. ;)

  • i dunno, i have the gator skin, it does me fine.

    what you using hippo?

  • I have a gatorskin on my touringbike. It works out fine, as long as it's not raining.. last time i was riding it in rain i had 3 flats in 50km. Then the road dried up, and it stopped.. Still it is comfy in the 25mm version, but I'm glad I got that tire for free..

  • I had an argument with my gatorskin. We haven't talked since.

  • just replaced my rear gatorskin, had it for 16 weeks, so roughly 1600 miles + the cambridge run, not a single p*ncture, also brakeless so use it to stop. was through to the cloth though, you could nearly see through it in places.

  • Touring: 4000s's
    Speed : Schwalbe Ultremo's

  • Vittoria Open Corsa Evo CX, two punctures in 1week/800k, through horrid conditions, but they are race tyres so pretty good actually. Contis would have exploded and killed 12 nearby riders in a hail of poorly formed rubber shrapnel and embedded glass. Conti's are for people who like riding hybrids with 32T MEGA RANGE gears.. hahaha

  • hippy: are you using the Corsa on a fixed gear? wonder how well they'd hold up to skidding :) not that I'd use a fine lightweight tire like that..
ATM my rear tire lifetime is about 500km.. perhaps I should cut down on the skidding ;)
800k is quite nice in a week.. how do you get the time? I think I do like 300 or so in a good week.

  • i've made the switch back...
gator front, army on the back. its gotta be the best for london roads. surely.

    +1, exactly. my faves.
the conti, is nice and soft, but shite for skidding, it skips, shudders under braking.
the army slides nicely, and is a lot thicker.

At £25 a pop? D'ya think I'm mental? 500k? Yes, you should cut down on skidding.
It was a fkn big week: ArcherGP sportive + 3-day Tour of Wessex :)

Rubino Pro front, Armadillo rear. It's what all the greats use.

  • Uhm, I'm quite happy with Open Corsa front and Rubino Pro back on my Vivalo.
But "the beater" uses Rubino Pro front, and now an old (but not worn) dumpstered Vittoria 3D compound kevlar something, have dumpstered tires in stock to last at least a few months at the current skid-rate, but I should stop skidding for fun I guess ;)

  • rubino pro front, armadillo rear is what i use. have yet to puncture. :)

    (using that set up)

  • Have Continental Supersport Plus on my commuter for about 8 months doing about 100 miles a week. There is still lots of rubber on them but have just had my 5 punctures in the last 3 weeks so they are going in the bin.

Don't understand how they can just suddenly start puncturing?
Not one in the first 7 months...

  • Paging hippy.

  • Heh, I had The Voice of Scoble in my ear this morning, went to lean the bike into a fast left hand turn, and THE WORD came to me- it's damp, you're on Gatorskins front and rear DO NOT LEAN.

Pointless tyres, I'm scared of them and their lack of grip in the wet.
