hey, i'm interested in the cranks and possibly the saddle. one thing is that i need to figure out whether it's the right size for my bike (i.e. do a little bit of research!) but i am in desperate need of something new... i'll try and do that tonight but might have to be tomorrow evening as i've a shit load of stuff to do. thanks!

I don't- tbh I remember the day i bought it well, it was the morning after the drinks ride of last summer, and I was hungover as fuck, and having ridden all round town on my kashima 5 Gold, my arse felt like it had three holes, and I rushed into BLB and said: do you have a white saddle. I don't care which one, just make sure it's comfortable.
It cost me £30 then.
I still thank them for that exemplary service on that day. I definately didn't care if i was ripped off or not, and they were really helpful.in jericho then?
no, god no, I live in college (Exeter) and have the best view in the whole of oxford from my roof. I'll show you in a few minutes....

ok, this: i have a lemond fillmore (54cm if i recall correctly, but i think that is probably irrelevant). i don't actually know that much about what i'd called "advanced" bicycle maintenance - i'm happy tightening various bolts etc and changing wheels and chains, but i don't know what all the bits are called. i've had lots of problems with the chainring on the front and i think that a new set of cranks and the bottom bracket (i think that is the right terminology!) would be good if i'm going to get this all sorted properly. currently, i'm riding 39x16 tho, so i'm not so interested in the 50t chainring, although could possibly work that out depending on a couple of factors. i'm also not sure how long my current cranks are - is 170mm the standard?
a bit about my riding - i ride fixed in london, commuting to university about 5-10 miles/day. however, i have been track standing and skidding, and i've ridden all winter and done several long trips (some of the rides from the forum - around london and also to brighton).
advice welcomed! thanks

and nice view by the way....never been to oxford uni... they didn't want me when I applied..:(

Ok so you're running 39/16= 64 gear inches.
with the 50 you could run a 19= 69 g.i.
or a 20 = 66 g.i.
The cranks take standard shimano square tapered bottom brackets, such as:
thisAs for crank length it should say on the inside of the arms.
I'd be quite unlikely to sell just cranks, but you could always sell on the chainring- it is in really, really good nick. -

I wish they hadn't wanted me almost every day. :(
I really applied on a whim, and to a subject I wasn't really interested in (Biochem).
I wanted to be rejected, so i could take a gap year and do medicine.although, you may be surprised but this might open up more doors for you through one of the graduate medical training schemes. these are shorter (4 as opposed to 5 years) and you would also be eligible for an NHS bursary, i believe, so you would get fees paid and also a small stipend (think about 2k/yr) to live on. the important thing is that you try and get some experience in "caring professions" e.g. nursing or voluntary work or whatever. if you want more help/advice then feel free to email me (i think it's in my profile) - my nick ain't d0cA for no reason at all ;-)
saying that, i am a student again now! - studying a masters and about to go onto a phd on the lowly student budgets that one can get.
anyhoooo.. about the stuff: can i get back to you tomorrow evening, please? the link you posted is very helpful but i need to check a few bits such as my cranks and read the link again properly etc. i am also still interested in the saddle too, so hope you can wait until tomorrow for me to make a decision about that - appreciate that you have given me first dibs.
thanks again for all the help!

20 pounds include postage??
what year you in now? too late for medicine? if you want to do medicine there are a few uni that do fast track.. but 5 yrs for a degree...2 years HO..2 more years SHO... and potentially a PhD / MD (2 -3 yrs) before you make consultant.... a long long journey...

Whatamidoing- ask d0cA about the saddle.
I do do paypal, but as for postage I will send you an invoice with the correct amount (it should be less than a fiver), because I don't want to rip people off with incorrect postal charges. -
• #19
PM me your details... and I will send you my address
-

@whatfriends- d0cA is still interested in the saddle and correct etiquette requires me to wait till he refuses or says yes.
I will let you know as soon as he lets me know. -
• #21
no problem...

just to jump on the medicine bandwagon - do the undergrad course rather than the postgrad course (its what im doing post-degree) from what ive heard from people doing the fasttrack, the amount of extra work doesnt justify the extra year, and yuore surrounded by miserable high-powered grads who have been out in the real world working.
theres the nice added bonus of preclinical being an absolute doss too....

just to add:
don't do a phd.unless you want to spend the rest of your life wondering why you did one, as science isn't as cool as you think it is. and the people in the lab aren't that much fun. and then you realise, fuck i tried a post doc and never really wanted to be a PI. and then you realise you're 31. and your peers are doing much better than you. and they left university 10 years ago.......
