Hi Everyone,
Been reading/researching on here for a while but finally decided to make the leap and register... so this is my first post...
Ok shorts for very quick rides or if i'm going to a bar etc and don't want to look too dorky I wear cut off jeans or combat shorts... Both are great but if your like me and you live in jeans then the cut-offs are a simple solution...
But for any other cycle ride whether its raining or sunny I wear my Rapha Fixed shorts... They are ridiculously expensive but I can honestly say that I doubt i'll ever want to be cycling in anything else ever again... They are perfect if you like the vintage look and they keep you very cool and the padding is discreet and comfortable...
I recently went on a weekend tour to see the paris roubaix race, I cycled for about a 150 miles on an old cannondale loaded with panniers and camping stuff and wore them for the three days solid whether it was sunny or raining and they couldn't of been better...
Check them out here... http://www.rapha.cc/index.php?page=169

Is that some kind of viral marketing post?
(I've got a pair - they were free - I won them fair and square by pedalling very fast - haven't worn them yet...)

Altura shorts are really good. The ones I have are kind of baggy mountain bike style with padding sown in. Real quality as they dry quickly too

i had exaclty the same thought this weekend
so far i have found 'Endura Zyme' something that id actualy want to wear all day,
gonna try and find somewhere to try them on though before buying -

I bought a pair of these a fortnight ago, to be worn over Lycra shorts:
The fabric is really light, and the cut is quite...well, sporty, I suppose - they're not too baggy and not too tight. The adjustable buckle thingy works properly. You don't have to fiddle with it every time you don the shorts.
£34.99 from Edinburgh Bicycle, which seems reasonable to me. So there. :-)
EDIT: All good, but no zipped pocket. Doh!

I have a pair of Oakley shorts with padding inside...they are good to ride in and don't look too bad off the bike...I would also recommend Carhart, they do some decent cargo type shorts...good shorts are hard to find in my experience...love making the transition to shorts when the summer comes

I have some green army shorts from there I have used daily with tights over the winter which have been great. £3! Padded shorts are for wusses!

Mine (tattoo) wouldn't fit there.
I wonder if the tattooist warned about 'feeling a little prick' etc when that bit of ink was done..

I have some brand new XXL Humvee shorts if any fatties want to purchase them..
The summer is coming (well, I thought it was over the weekend, but it got a bit miserable this afternoon...) so it's time to sort out some kind of clothing for commuting into uni.
I don't want to waste money on something that turns out not to be good, hence I'm asking for opinions. What works best for riding in the summer? My commute is only 20-25 min, but jeans aren't nice in the heat, and are uncomfortable.
Baggy cycle-specific shorts?
Lycra shorts (then running shorts over the top to banish any lycra-fear)?
Anyone spotted any good deals about? Cheaper the better, but not so cheap it's shite.
Ta :)
