  • damn you guys plan in advance... i need to get on it and sign up for some sportives this year.

  • i'm up for the invicteur, def, although will have to delay sending in form becuase i just blew my money on tgv to and hotel in ventoux for april. i'm so fucking excited i think i may have an accident.

  • Do you mean 'excited'?

Always used to crack me up when non-participatory EFL students moaned about how 'boring' they were.

  • i meant both.

    :P

  • Now you've edited your post, mine doesn't make sense any more.

    I'm so confusing.

  • Anyone still up for the Grimpeur? I don't seem to have received anything in the mail yet but my cheque cleared so I guess I'm signed up.

  • dont feel too great plus ive been called to work tonight so im out. forecast is actually ok for tom, prob bit breezy but should be better than today. good luck fuzzbrain

  • Fuzzbrain, I have your entry and I have sent a route sheet by e-mail,
    cheers
    steve

  • Looking forward to the Chiltern 100 everyone? Only 8 weeks and 6 days to go. I'll have to dust off the road bike before I use it again :0(

Anyway, I'm 95% certain of entering the San Fairy Ann CC Cyclosportive on Bank Holiday Monday 5th May, 118kms around Kent starting and finishing at Marden, Kent. £10 in advance, £12 on the day. Trouble is, the start is a long way out from London, and the first train doesn't arrive into Marden station until 09:23, 23 minutes after the first starters and you'll still have to register.

    Few details here : http://www.roadcyclinguk.com/news/article/mps/uan/2226

  • Myself and 4 mates signed up for the White Horse Challenge (100 mile circuit around Swindon on sunday, 27 april)
    details here
    http://whitehorsechallenge.com/

Two of them have bailed out, so there's 2 spots available if anyone is keen. I think the list is full at 550 riders, £20 entry. PM me for details.

Yeah, tried to enter this one too. Not going if I have to ride with hippy though.

  • It's ok illy.. it's not a L2B ride. We have no established curse for this ride :)

  • It's more that I just don't want to get absolutely destroyed by you by the first bend. Might be nice to ride with you to the top of the first hill, at least...

  • If I do it (hamster, where are you?) then it'd probably be on the back of a big Saturday ride. So, I'll be suffering or riding damage limitation with finishing being the only goal. Not likely to be going for a time.

Have you PM'd hamster? I just emailed him. PM'd last night.

  • yep hippy and illy, the spots are yours if you want them. I think i have to talk to the organizers to officially swap you around. I think the packs (ie numbers) were sent out this week, so i may have to collect them for you and bring them on the day.
going to southend today but i'll check my email when we're back

  • Sweet! Where are you or you mates based? Might be able to pick up the packs?
Not sure how strict they are on entries.. it'd be good to swap but if they got arsey I don't see how they can stop us riding. Just email me if you want. You can CC illy, I think he has my email address anyway.

  • they live out near farnborough, but i work with them so see them daily. anyway i'll just collect them and drop them at one of the drinks sessions this week.

  • oops, turns out that illy can't make the ride so there's still one spot open for http://whitehorsechallenge.com/

    anyone? PM me

I emailed the organiser and he needs an email from one of your mates saying that he agrees with me taking his place? Is that possible to sort out?
Did you get my email from this forum?

  • was in Swindon over the weekend for the white horse challenge.
whitehorsechallenge route/times here. note these aren't my data. I did the route a little quicker than that seen above, elapsed time of 6:17, estimated riding time of approx 5:50.
pretty sure i was the only one on a fixed wheel. 74 gear inches (48/17) was a bit steep, one of the climbs was signposted at 17% grade!
The route was 90 miles, feeder ride from Swindon was c. 10miles, making yesteday my first century, fixed or otherwise. chuffed with the result.
so hippy, how did you get on?

Well done hamster, those are some impressive stats, fixed or free.

Was it a good route generally? What was the turnout like?

  • the route through the countryside was really nice. views from the top of the climbs were excellent - we were blessed with excellent weather after a week of forecasts calling for torrential rain. i guess there were 550 spots, but i'm sure there were far fewer participants than that. they'll post the times on the website later on in the week, and that'll say how many finished.

my highlight was being overtaken by some dude on a planetX full carbon tri bike about 15 miles in, only to catch him up about 5miles later on the first climb. i didn't see him again until the end (when he finished about an hour after me!). i bet my bike cost 10% what his did. :)
