  • I'm amazed they can even stand after that.

  • Agreed! The confusion makes the Madison.

Cavendish has had an awesome year, saw him at the Tour of Britain Prologue, and he was seriously quick around the course at Crystal Palace. The man is a machine.

  • What a great race.
    When W & C decided they wanted to win.......I 'm so impressed.

  • It's all about Simona Krupeckaite.

  • That was a good race. Did anyone watch the Keirin? Hoy is a monster!

  • keirin's on in a minute I think...

Meant the heats> The final is about to start.

  • Hoy da man.

  • What a monster!

  • Meant the heats> The final is about to start.

    He is seemingly unstoppable!

  • 42.8mph!

  • go Hoy!!!

  • What a day of cycling! Chris Hoy amazing - what a beast! Good luck for Vicky Pendleton in Keirin tomorrow.

  • It's all about Simona Krupeckaite.

    Sorry, mr. hippy, it's Vicky.

BTW, can anyone on that tiny island called England get me a date with said Vicky?

  • Pfft.. no accounting for taste. It's all about the chicks with crazy names from crazy places.

Did anyone else see Duffield say "sprinters are normally built like so and so.. shit houses!"
He "so and so'd" the wrong bit hahahaha and it went out live on Eurosport hahaha

  • Just got back from Manchester and what an amazing day of racing yesterday. Wiggins and Cav were just unbelievable when they decided to make the lap up and Hoy is just a powerhouse on wheels. Seeing these guys riding flat out and just a few metres away is an impressive sight. The speed is just mental.

If you get the chance to watch any racing at Manchester then go , the velodrome is such a good place . You can do taster sessions and clubs can hire it out i think.........LFGSS day out anyone??

  • Missed load of this today doing work and gunit wanted to watch murder mysteries. Dam murders.

  • Hardly seen anything in the papers myself. I think as a nation we prefer our sportspeople/teams to put in a brave effort and go down fighting than to actually win stuff. Shame...

  • Good post Brett, totally agree.

I was listening to that twat George Lamb's show on 6 Music and they had a sports round up - the other guy started to mention the cycling when Geroge interjected: 'God we must be scraping the barrel if we have to talk cycling. What about England's performance in the football? Dreadful'.

Sums your point up precisely. (And shows that a 'populist' DJ like Lamb is pretty out of place on that network).

Is he that cockerney wanker who sounds like an even worse Russell Brand? Unlistenable.

  • Oh yes. Not great is he?

    DJ job spec:
    1) play a good record
    2) tell me what it is
    3) go to step 1.

    It's not difficult.

  • Gutted!

Pendleton missed out on gold in the Keirin.

  • Yes very true.

I was having this conversation with my friends in the pub on Saturday night. The efforts of our cyclists really shows up the footballers for what they are. Don't get me wrong. I love football, but most of the players nowadays are just a bunch of overpaid prima-donnas who wouldn't recognize real effort and achievement if it slapped them in the face.

And yes. The media in this country do seem to prefer it when we loose.

  • And yes. The media in this country do seem to prefer it when we loose.

    That's not entirely true.

    2005 Ashes
    Rugby World Cup Win
    Lewis Hamilton

The media loves jumping on bandwagons. All of the above meant that the sports got huge amounts of press afterwards. The cricket and rugby teams did get hopped into when it went tits-up, granted.

I don't understand why they haven't gone berserk about the cycling. Britain dominates and a lot of the titles are defended successfully, not just one off tourney wins.

  • But is it a mainstream sport? I think its a huge achievement for the team but I'm not sure it many off the 'general public' will be that interested...

Think if they do the same in the olympics it will get a load more inches in the papers
