they have to have tape, and they have to be drop handlebars. don't have to be "track" bars.
the main reason many will want a hire bike is simple..
Gear inches, children, Gear inches.
unless you want to prick around with small sprockets and (maybe) a bit of chain shortening.
(obviously 50:14 is already sorted)
an earlier conversation from this thread
Think it means 'no bare bars' rather than 'must be tape'...
-
• #279
you have to have tape or grips and bar end plugs

Hey bmmf
the UCI 6.7kg limit does actualy count on the track, most carbon frames are hard to get under it but some alloy ones do so they put coins down the seat tube to bring it back over the limit.Shame im racing up north that day or i would have come and played

I meant it wouldn't give me as much advantage as it does going up hills - my forte.
I won't be doing any bona fide racing, but I've always got enough dried fruit and seeds and stuff in my bag to tip the scales if necessary. It would probably psyche out the other competitors as it rattled around inside my handlebars :)
Be good to see you down there if ooop North gets cancelled. You could be a human Derny for the rest of us :D

Hey there kids,
Just nice to see you all at HH. Had a great day even if I was not incrediby social.

you were busy buying all the wheels and rims you could find...

I'm meeting a 'local track veteran' for drinks tonight so I'll (finally) post a provisional race programme tomorrow, then you lot can decide how you wanna race on the day...
And... I know there are a few LFGSS design projects on the go atm but who wants to get a proper poster/spoke card competition off the ground?
Also wanna pin down all the folks who've already said they're coming down to race/sell stuff on the day (Roberto/Jos/Scott/Smear/Broken77?), any ideas on who should hold the entry money (not me!)? PayPal? VB's bank account? Or just cash on the day? It'd be good to have some idea of how much cash the event'll generate for HH/VB's server costs...
This thing's only two months away, peoples!!! :o -

Right... Met up with George from Brixton Cycles last night, his stepdad organises a lot of stuff down at HH, and he suggested we might enjoy the following (emphasis on fun races that lots of bods can take part in and good for novices):
- 3 lap bunched sprints
- Keirin
- 20 lap scratch race
- Handicap sprints w/ flying laps
- Unknown distance
- Hare and hounds
Thoughts?
- 3 lap bunched sprints
-
• #286
Sounds good, but 20 lap scratch race could get a bit hectic with people being lapped etc. I think there should probably be a rule about dropped/lapped riders just rolling round at the top of the banking, out of harm's way. Maybe?
-
• #287
Too many stickies, will re-sticky this two weeks before the event.
-
• #288
is that what an elimination race is? saw it in revolution oz. about 25 or so cyclists going around for about 20 laps. each lap the last person goes out. gets pretty exciting towards the end (for spectator but i guess it's exciting for the cyclist each lap)
-
• #289
that's devil takes the hindmost if i'm not mistaken
-
• #290
^ That's devil take the hindmost/the devil.
EDIT: Too slow... in the forum posting version of the devil.
-
• #291
maybee we should split some people into groups so its a bit fairer and its not the same people winning
-
• #292
Yeah the elimination or devil or devil takes the hindmost. I don't think it's that good for newer riders.
At the front might be ok but down the back when you're racing for the line, people always get boxed in and change lines to get over others to avoid elimination.
Seems to result in crashes more often than other races. Plus, if you're the first one out, your race is over. Boring. -
• #293
I gather you need a helmet to ride on the track, i don't have one but i have one of these that my old man bought.......... is that ok?
http://www.branfordbike.com/images/helmet/hairnet2.jpg
otherwise i'll just go get a helmet
cheersTo Teenslain: suggested events sound great, after watching some of the track racing championships last night its nice to see/ take part in varying styles of races be it long/short and with larger /lesser numbers.
can we get a one to two liner explaining the rules of each?
-
• #294
No. It's not a helmet and provides no protection whatsoever.
-
• #295
J4mmd can we get a one to two liner explaining the rules of each?
- Handicap sprints w/ flying laps: only crippled riders with the ability to fly need apply - Christopher Reeve always tended to clean up in this discipline.
- Unknown distance: always further than you feel like riding.
- Hare and hounds: since the supposed restrictions on fox hunting, the blood-thirsty toffs chase trackies instead; first rider to get caught is torn apart, and his blood is smeared on the winning rider's face.
-
• #296
HH is 450 metres long.
That needs to be taken into account if we are going to have fun races. -
• #297
1 lap sprint is fine with me
-
• #298
i think a half lap rolling start on the sprints its good to get goin

How about an Olympic Sprint? Teams of 3, at the end of the first lap the front man pulls up high onto the banking leaving the rider behind to complete the next lap, then he pulls up allowing the final rider to complete a full lap. Fastest time wins. You normally have two teams on the track at a time, but it isn't necessary as the results are based on time.
