winston Trying hard yes.....pushing hard no....we've watched thousands ride over last year, you can usually tell straight away who's gonna be good....it's all about fluidity and smoothness....I love it as discipline because less strong riders can overcome super-fit athletes just by having better "style".
I didn't do a great time (24 I think) but I totally agree with this. I didn't use any effort, just concentrated on really smooth cycling and even pressure throughout the pedal stroke. If I hadn't bombed out halfway through and had a multi-second pause as my legs turned to jelly I think I would've done fine.
Style wins out... and stamina (my downfall even in crits and at spinning class), but not necessarily pure power.

So what about powerfull poeple that can spin too ;-)

Geoff Cooke for example? he beat Anthony Gill at the tour prologue roller race.....so I think technique and experience just had the edge over youthful power.

Anthony has masses of raw power, but as you point out Geoffs superiour pedaling skills won the day. Anthony is still fairly new to cycling tho and with time im sure he will become more efficent.
Would be interesting to see what the senior squad members could do? 17 secs maybe with their powre fitness and excellent efficency

Slack what's the easiest way to measure cadence then?
I work them out in advance - gear inches divided by 336, multiplied by cadence equals your speed.
eg. 39x23 (x26.4" wheel (700c)) = 44.76" /336 = 0.133
Therefore cadence of 100 is 13.3mph, so cadence of 200 is 26.6mph, etc
Roughly :)

Just out of interest, I noticed that Geoff Cooke was taking a sprinting class at Manchester Velodrome last weekend.

Give this Geoff a 'shot' :S

winston 21.3 I think...and Caspar was 20.9...ish.....it's chalked on the back of the dial...hope it hasn't worn off!
20.8 damn it! That 10th of a second represents 5% of the race...............get back to planting your trees Winston.

I noticed some of the trixies laughing their wee socks off everytime someone was up on the rollers, intrigued as to why I asked "...oh were saying thats probably their sex face when there going at it" ....And next on the rollers Hael, crap! just stare at the cranks! ..stare at the cranks!, which is probably what I do during sex anyway..

Slack what's the easiest way to measure cadence then?
Count revs over 15 seconds and multiply by 4...that's what I do....if you cna't mange that due to physical exertion, get someone to count for you while you are on your turbo/rollers.
-
• #71
I got the rollers home at 9ish took about 15 minutes to get my balance on them, and I'm away!! They're quite addictive aren't they?
-
• #72
like smack for bike nuts!, I was thinking of getting my self some, tho I can imagine the home rollers aren't as good as the rollapaluza ones :(
-
• #73
I'll do it
-
• #74
so, has anyone finalised the team yet, or can i throw my name into the hat?
(nelly, BTW)
been in finals, pleny of semi's and a quater of various roler races in tha last few years.
As you were.

oh and winston
"the best position is debatable, but one thing is clear, have your saddle at least 2cm lower than normal when roller-racing.....this helps you spin and there is no danger of your legs locking out.....leg extension is not an issue, because power is not an issue....everyone who ignored this advice in 2007 set crap times!!!!! hohoho."
i take umbrage.
full seat height and move forwards my personal preference, rather than a lower seat.
Thers always one though, right?
