  • thik its all good as long as its not your frist post and there is no arrospok

  • @ red whats your budget and size? i might have some thing for you...[/quote]

    hi chris,

i'm 6'4" with long legs so i'm looking at 61cm i reckon, just having trouble finding anything to test ride, evans told me if they ordered anything in specially for me i'd have to buy it which isn't ideal! budget of £400 - £450 tops so i was thinking a fuji track with a couple of improvements could be a good starter. If you have anything else though i'd be well up for taking a look. cheers

  • Caspar was talking of these.. I think Surly do them.. they have a funny name i can't recall..

You can use cantis with vee levers and vice-versa... they are just fucked and it's stupid. It's putting BMX wheels on a road bike.. possible.. but dumb.

i have a 61cm 07 pista that im debating selling... basicly it stock with a front break, and i'll put some pedals with cages and straps on it, picked it up october as winter ride, so its seen a few miles, wont be back in the uk for a few weeks, and not sure if it going to be sold or become a polo bike... either way you would be welcome to take it for a test ride. im 6ft 6 and it fits decently.

  • Leperisland/Caroline, I think Fixedgearlondon still have a little 47cm frame about (last I heard) - I'm sure if you have the money they might build it into a sexy bike for you? By the way, how tall are you?

    Contact them: http://www.fixedgearlondon.com/page6.htm.

  • chris crash thik its all good as long as its not your frist post and there is no arrospok

OK. Caroline- got this lovely little frame - silly light for steel, make a good fixed. :)

  • I'm 5'4. I was planning on going for a freewheel as I glide so much as a cyclist I think it would be too much of a step for me, however my flatmate was going on and on about how much better fixed is - but I like standing on the pedals! Oh I don't know :-/

  • That singulatored bike up there ^^^ is from those people off gumtree isn't it?

http://www.gumtree.com/london/09/20584009.html I'm surprised they haven't got some stick from here yet...

The black gate bike 'on red tyres' they have on there seems to have had it's forks un-raked using the 'crashing into something' method!

  • you can always go for a flip-flop hub, with freewheel on one side and fixed on the other so you just have to flip the wheel to change between.

  • Sorry for the bluntness, but christ that's an ugly bike...and I'd really recommend not riding a singlespeed with a freewheel without a back brake - it is unsafe.

  • ah leper, you're not that much of a short arse, so ignore the speedway stuff and just hunt for a small frame. but not one of those from that gumtree ad.

  • You know the more I look at it the more i hate it too, I'm just a terribly impulsive buyer, I just thought 'I could make this pretty'

  • there's some real twats making some (at worst) powdered over deathtraps or (at best) hideously overpriced old conversions out there at the moment..

my advice, is off the peg, or get an older geared bike with the right dropouts and get someone to help you convert it properly if you don't want to do it yourself

Cheers Chris, i may have something in a few weeks but if not that would be great...evans have a 59 pista built up so hopefully by process of elimination i'll know if that's too small the 61 will be ok.

  • So I used to ride Mountain Bikes all the time, in town and on the dirt; now I need a bike to see me to work and back and round about London..... I've been looking at all the off the peg single speed models for £400 or less, but I would prefer to get something custom built, or at least not from a massive american company: Any ideas? I like the look of the Giant Bowery, but I'd rather not go down that route.

  • Got a nice Kogswell I may let go to a careful owner, how tall are you?

  • Ive been bitten by the bug guys...
ive migrated from bmx to fixed speeds or single speeds,
i was an avid bmx collector and restorer, loved my raleigh burners due to the memories now ive moved to (just 2 weeks ago from Glasgow) and think fixies would be a good progression for me, seems to be the same kind of enthusiasm, creativity and a healthy forums like bmx so sounds good to me....

i want to ease myself in and was hoping someone had something on offer to fit my bill...
a second hand plug would be great
or an old raleigh racer that i could start to evolve my own from would be awesome too,
basically im open to suggestions so let me know what you got!
went into brick lane bikes and ive priced up a full custom build that i can get through works scheme ( may as well take advantage)
but fancy being able to build mine up from a good base so let me see what ure selling.

i believe the correct size for me is 21'' or 53cm there or thereabouts

hope to hear from you soon
    David

best i can do cant edit title

  • uh oh!

  • uh oh!

    ???

  • you'll see...

  • looks at watch

  • boys behave. Just sell the man a bike.

  • im assuming i should expect a torrent of undeserved abuse like i did on my other unfortunate thread and come to think of it any post ive made thus far...

  • of course. man when you show bread to pigeons they go for it don't they?

  • it's just that people who use words "fixie" and "scene" tend to get crucified.
