  • Recently I've started using the Blackberry Maps function. Its good and accurate. I've just started using mine on a T-Mobile tariff, and recommend it. Good if you get a bit lost. The BBM Blackberry Messenger function is encrypted, so pretty impressive too.

    EDIT: GoogleMaps is so much better! But the BBM has stood the test of time.

  • Do you work for O2 or something?

  • could this be a case undercover marketing to the up and coming - oooooh it´s like so trendy right now - fixed gear scene?

  • Not a chance. I just started using it, and thought I'd share. I did check how much they cost, and the network I chose is the cheapest. If its cheap; I'm there. If some of the folk on here were already into it, there'd be instant messaging all day and night, between this fine lot here (koff, koff).

  • i'm a avid blackberry user until today. my 3 month old curve started being shitty (deleting my inbox and turning itself off all the time) so i took it back and now have to wait 14-28 days for a repair or replacement. joy.

    other than that, blackberrys are mint. i prefer google maps to the blackberry maps tho, better imaging...

  • aye big ups for googlemaps on blackberry

  • my map shows every street in central London, really good imaging. very accurate, all streets are easy to find, the interface is user freindly, and it never breaks down or shuts off. all this for just over a fiver.

  • I have just bought an iPhone. It's very nice, but Google Maps is the killer feature. Pure dead genius and no more getting lost.

    Amazing battery life as well!

    Yeah, I had a tinker with that in the Apple Store. It's very impressive. I'd be worried about getting mugged with an iPhone though, and the contracts don't seem that good.

  • I've got Google Maps on my WM5 device, but connection isn't as stable. But the maps plus Blackberry-only I.M. has got me out of my trance.

  • You can run Google maps on any phone with Java, Ive got it on mine but the psuedo-GPS "my location" beta test thing doesn't run on my Samsung so have to manually locate yourself but its fast a v. useful.

  • whats this pseudo GPS thing? I wish the blackberries had some kind of GPS system built in.

  • Blackberries do have built-in GPS.. well.. mine does.

  • lukerative whats this pseudo GPS thing? I wish the blackberries had some kind of GPS system built in.

    If you have the right kind of phone Google maps can ID what cell on the phone network you are nearest too and can place you on the map to within a few hundred metres when you load it up.

    At this time, My Location (beta) is available for these devices:

    * BlackBerry devices
    * Some recent Motorola devices
    * Some recent Sony Ericsson devices
    * Many Windows Mobile devices
    * Nokia Series 60 3rd Edition devices

    If you have a Java-enabled (J2ME) device, BlackBerry or Windows Mobile device, you can easily check whether or not My Location (beta) is available. Just go to "Help" > "About" from the application. If the box contains "myl: N/A," it means your device isn't reporting a cell, and your location may not be available.

  • There is GPS built in. The 8800, 8820, Pearl 8110, Curve 8310, all have full GPS. I use it all the time.

  • i have just brought a nokia n95 mainly to use as a modem for the laptop when on location but it has a gps/map thingy that i wanted for riding on the road, not as a "take the 2nd exit at the roudabout" thing but more for heading off in a general direction, getting lost then finding out where you are and how to get back without getting lost again.
    it works quite well but battery life isn't very good.

  • Chris Crash's paper device is the only one to survive a BIG tumble, or a dunking. But since nobody ever has a big "off", that paperback stuff will never catch on.

  • I've got the 8820 and the GPS works quite well. I've used it here and Poland and I think it uses Google Maps. There are some inaccuracies but it's pretty good for its size - certainly better than mate's Nokia N95.

  • I've imagined a route from London to the fartherest corners of Europe, and the Blackberry Map gives a full route, even to Sicilly. Not bad I think. It also gave an excellent result from Osgood, Ontario, to San Francisco.

  • Add me folks!
