  • If it stays dry overnight, should be okay - definitely want to get out there, despite turning over my ankle while walking to work :(

  • if i wasn't going on an epic MTB ride on sunday i would have been up for a spin, i don't think my legs could take it at the mo

  • Looks like me and jonny are on for this (unless it snows/rains overnight). 9am Glos Gate on the Regents Park Outer Circle for 9.15am departure.

    Brett? mikec? illy? hippy? etc?

lpg - where did you disappear to last week (KFC)?

  • Have spent the last 18 hours laid up with a particularly violent dose of food poisoning, so probably not a good idea for me - grrr....
sorry, seems to be a catalogue of excuses for me recently!

  • I'm probably collecting a power graph of my commute followed by a 10mi TT. Then 100mi Sunday in Suffolk.

  • Are you mental? You're probably at the most optimum climbing weight you'll ever be. And with the perfect consistency of organic chamois cream...

"Another story I read concerned Greg Lemond the year he won his first Tour de France. Greg was suffering from stomach cramps one morning but got up on his bike anyway. The cramps got worse and he ended up getting a pretty bad dose of the runs. He rode on anyway and made it to the nd of the stage, but by the time he crossed the finish line his legs were covered in diarrhoea. As if riding the tour wasn't hard enough, Lemond had to do a the first half of a stage with his insides trying to escape through his arse and the second half smelling like the inside of a piggery. Paul Kimmage wrote about it to give an example of courage in sport, and it hit the spot."

  • hehe yeah but I'm now getting the horn over my collection of power graphs so it's all about the power.. Plus I might die on Sunday if hills are involved Sat.

  • Mmmm, stats:

  • You missed the Nutella sandwiches.. and here we go for another..

  • I just eat it straight out the jar. It's the bread that provides the hidden calories.

  • I eat it straight from the jar while spreading it.. the bread is just a means for me to travel around eating Nutella without having to carry the jar and a knife :)

  • You need the knife if you live in the ghetto of Finsbury.

  • hehe I have Jeeves take care of any trouble out here.. you know.. like X5's that park on my golf course.. that kind of thing.

Nah, went to SFC got a junior spesh, £1 and fifty pence.

    I'll probably be there tomorrow...:D

  • Hi BMMF, can't do tomorrow I'm afraid. Have to sort my cat out. Definitely up for it regularly from next week though.

  • I'll be on gears the following week with pj et al in Kent. After that, mainly Herne Hill. Hope your cat doesn't get too freaked out by the jabs :)

  • i was on my own so i went out with a group of likely looking people i met at the cafe. we did about 50 really hilly miles, through kent, the pace was great, the weather was totally lovely.

  • That looks fun! Chalkpit, Titsey/White, shallow side of Toys... I'm there next weekend :D

  • shallow side of toys was a blast, when you go over the top then right, there's another really steep goat track/country road.

  • That's not one I can remember doing. Do you think you'd be able to navigate the same route next time. I wish to abdicate all directional responsibility.

  • maybe. although that thing when someone else leads, you always forget.

  • Have you ever been in the situation where you're on a long solo ride, doing a route you've ridden before (stuck behind someone's wheel), and the bonk starts a-knocking (the knock starts a-bonking) so any navigational capabilities evaporate?

I never again want to be stuck on the side of an 'A' road in the coastal Essex flatlands, cold, hungry, depressed, and stopping every 250m to check the map cos the entire landscape has stopped bearing any resemblance to the cartography :(

Do you mean do a right along Emmetts Road, then straight over Ide Hill Road? If so, yes! There's a very narrow lane with a bitch of a short steep hill. Do a left at the top and it brings you under the A21 and out at the top of Riverhead.
