  • Wake up 06:20

    Leisurely breakfast

07:00 leave house ride with girlfriend to work, nice ride watching the sunrise

07:35 part ways with girl head on to London cruse gently inn as the sun fully make an apearence

07:55 Riding though New Cross, BANG, every one ducks and pulls out their pieces, but fear not it is the crappy conti side wall blowing out.

Patch side wall with peace of old inner tube, glue and tape. It no holds.
Patch side wall with peace of old inner tube, glue and tape plus a bit of plastic from my puncture repair box.
Feeling rushed because conti tyres are tight I used a tyre leaver like an idiot and punctured my new tube.
repair tube. Eventually leave New cross some time around 09:00. Progress on very slowly and carefully.

Go to condor to buy tyre get ignored by their shit customer service as they chat about the crap state of the new uk Colnago distributer. Only getting served once Kieth pops up from the work shop.

Arrive at Euston and get into office 9:50 ish.

Total distance, just shy of 18 miles. Total time 2 hr 50 min. Average speed 6.35 mph / 10.2 kmph

I hate to say / type this but Hippy is right

  • don't like the 0620 bit mate, that's brutal

but yeah, contis can be poo

  • I currently have a piece of inner tube poking through my conti sidewall! What the hell's that about?
That sounds like a dissapointing start to a nice bright morning. I guess we all learn through experience.
So what tyre did you replace it with?

  • Don't underestimate the New Cross factor in the equation.

  • I've had 2 or 3 p______s riding through that dump.

  • god yep i got scared when a panaracer touring tyre blew on me recently, thought someone was brapping for a minute there, then felt a breeze on my left ankle...

I'm gonna avoid contis now too. How old/worn was it? My pasela was a year and half old, ridden every day but no skidding. I admit I had overinflated it that morning, but had been told those tyres could take a bit more pressure.

Can anyone tell me about a better clincher than armadillos? i know there's lots of opinions on this. i won't be needing to skid, in fact I like grip.

  • shit start to the day tommy. get rid of em.

flickwg - hope you are reading this ;)

  • you need bonty hard cases for new cross crime fighting action, I can testify

  • RPM you need ~~bonty hard ~~cases for new cross crime fighting action, I can testify

armidillo's all the way!! bullet proof, which if you in sth ldn will be handy.

  • #SkullheadWilderness

    Went for a armadillo.

The tyre was about 2 months old maybe. Plus I did not ride for two weeks over Christmass, only commuting riding and I keep an eye on my pressure.

#Todd reinforce that tyre and replace as soon as possible. That is just waiting to blow, and it will always happen at the worst time.

  • Schwalbe Stelvio PLUS!!

    Bullet proof!

Weird for skids tho if thats important to you.

  • #Todd reinforce that tyre and replace as soon as possible. That is just waiting to blow, and it will always happen at the worst time.

I need to get my tyre situation sorted out! Contis on the commuter and tubs on the Witcomb! I think it could be time to have an overhaul! Scrap the contis and rebuild the tubulars with clinchers. When a tub goes it's always a bad day.

  • what conti's were they tommy?

  • Maybe keep the tubs for ring track and build some new wheels for the Witcomb?

  • lucky7 what conti's were they tommy?

    Ultra sport

You coming out to play on sat lucky 7?

  • Damn, now I am getting scared. Skidded through me Vredestein Fortezza at the weekend so replaced it with a Conti GP4000 that was reduced in Cyclesurgery. So far I'm liking it, really grippy and stops quick when skidding.

But, Tommy and Hippy both speak wisdom.

I think I'll ebay up some more Fortezza's to be on the safe side. And I do love the black / white aesthetic...

  • I punctured last night on the way home in the rain, I feel your pain.

I didn't have any gear with me so 45 min walk home. ho hum!

  • Vredesteins. The best. End of.

  • Word

  • Ive had a conti ultra sport on the back for 12 months now, skidded it to shit, bald patches all over the places but still running it and havent had one puncture in 12 months. I realise ive totally just cursed myself and ill most definatly get one on the way home tonight but id buy em again.

  • So the roads aren't made of broken glass in your part of town Conan! Punctures were driving me up the wall recently so I've just been trying out some Panaracer kevelar felt tape which goes between the tube and, in my case, some none too puncture resistant gatorskins... Not sure if I'd recommend it yet but three weeks with no problems so far...

  • Conti TopTouring rock. 85 psi and no problems. That Armadillo shit is too plastic for grip and they ride like the solid tyres you had on your pram!

  • Think I'm gonna try out the Vredesteins. Not sure if I want coloured tyres but hey.

  • Tommy that sucks. I've run conti gatorskins and (touch wood) been fine - skidded back tyre bald and still no p*******s. Replaced it and that's fine too.

Either Xmas was kind to you (if you know what I mean) or rain & pothole season is taking its toll. (Anyone else noticed how bad the road surfaces are at present?).

  • Plus One for the G-skins.
Tough as nails on 2 bikes so far.
