I just wanted to point out that it was the opinion of one writer. Trawl through those posts and you will find pro- and anti-nuclear power/carbon offsetting/iron seeding articles as well. It's not as though TreeHugger is anti-fixed gear.

Considering the scale of the controversy I am thinking of writing an article on it, although that may just stir things up further.

And also, no one had to get personal and offensive about it. Like I said, Lloyd is a good guy, and certainly not a "fucktard".

Should walking be allowed?

You could walk into things, or people. Just the other day some dude bumped my shoulder and it bloody hurt too. All I think when I see people walking is liability, accidents, risk... it's everywhere. Walking is really dangerous. Do you know how much it costs the health system and your local government in costs against those who trip and fall whilst outside? No, of course not... but it's lots. And we could really use that money to make people do something safer like ride a bike.

Every time an older person drives down a street and sees a kid walking, they're thinking, that's my prey there... I'm gonna fuck that little kiddie. Walking is inherently unsafe as children are left open to be prey to paedophiles! Won't someone think of the children! Really, seriously, think of the fucking kids will ya!

Walking should be made illegal. It is way safer for kids to have jet packs. It's safer for everyone to have jet packs. Everyone knows this, it's accepted and so need not be spoken about because it's so damn obvious. And that's why no-one speaks about it.

Jet packs beat walking. And you should contact your local representative and get walking illegalised immediately.

did the writer do any kind of research or did he just write that, because i had a similar view of fixed gears when i first got told about it but after riding it once you realise that they arent as dangerous as all that and he makes it sound like the majority of fixed wheel riders dont use any brakes which i have only seen a very few people doing

Let's give Lloyd the benefit of the doubt.I dont know him and im sure he's a great guy.But he made a mistake writing that article in that way.What i would do is take it down and try again.my opinion of course.....

There's a lot of hate for Fixed Wheels on the intervoid today. A sign of a dying trend?
In my experience people will tend to do what the hell they like regardless of laws, that's why we have the much loathedloved police force. If everyone stuck to the letter of the law then there would be no such need. If everything worked perfectly 100% of the time we would need to solicitors or litigators. 1-800-I'vehadanaccidentandwanttosuesomeone companies wouldn't exist.

It's all well and good people discussing their ideals of how everything should work but no one wants to take responsibility. It's this mentality that blames the machine, not the moron behind it. Sure techinical and mechanical faults occur but surely anyone using a particular mode of transport should have the ability to ensure they can halt things safetly in these rare cases.
Using brakeless Fixed Wheels as an example, IF the chain fails (either by falling off or snapping), and that's a hell of an if, I don't know of many people who ride brakeless who couldn't bring the bike to a stop using their foot on a rear wheel or dumping themself into the floor, avoiding hurting other people. Okay so it wouldn't be elegant but that's surely why we maintain our bikes and ensure correct chain tension &c.

Articles such as these treat us as morons who consider ourselves unaccountable for our own actions. I stand by everything that I have ever done, even the mistakes that I've made, as they were my choices at a particular time, hence, my responsibility.

I've never caused physical harm to anyone by my actions. I have been at the other end of the scale hurt by someone else, Mr 50*14 as an example. Still I find it easy to forgive this as exactly what it was, an accident. Not a maliceous attemp to damage myself or my belongings.

Blame culture is a curse over intelligence.
