  • had he crashed, did they hit him or was he wasted.

either way, he's well lucky. great news.

  • Ted has umm, a, let's say a fondness for beer.

  • ha ha ha!!!!!

don't know ted but love the tale,

and for what it's worth I know loadsa nice (read decent) folk in London, and I reckon most of you do too!

  • well lets say he got lucky this time!

    some things never change... :)

  • My girlfriend just had her bike stolen from the richmix at the top of bricklane where she works (bastards climbed over the fence to get it)

its a burgundy raliegh ladies bike (not fixed) single cog on the front and multispeed on the back. It's pretty distinctive as the gear lever is bolted to the handlebar stem, not the bars themselves. It's not worth anything much, but means A LOT to her.

burgundy frame, black handlebars with bronze brake levers. silver mud guards and a "one less car" sticker on one side.

if anyone sees it please email me robin (at) spacehijackers.org asap

i'll be down at bricklane this weekend looking for someone to thump.

  • not that I expect to get any of this back, but just to vent my spleen a little..
My boyfriend and I have had three bikes stripped of parts in the last two months. They were parked in the back yard of our building where there are bike racks and motion sensitive lighting
I hate bicycle thieves and I hate people who knowingly buy stolen parts.
How strange that they always nick everything on a Saturday night! Very convenient considering how easy it is to sell stuff on Brick Lane on a Sunday.
Last weekend they took everything of mine except the cranks etc, wheels and frame which were locked, but I was not the worst off.
They even stole my neighbour's forks and cranks and bottom bracket.

I was riding my boyfriend's old bike as I still hadn't replaced mine from the time before, and now neither of us has a usable bike at all

    I HATE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • If you are a thief why not be a bike thief.

    High returns.

    Plentiful supply of bike/ parts.

    Plentiful market to supply.

    Little security.

The general public will not bother you as you go about your "work".

    Low risk of being caught.

    Low penalties if caught.

As close to the perfect crime as possible. Why bother braking into house or cars or mugging people bikes are easy pray.

  • At the risk of offending someone who is legitimately selling this bike....or losing a pretty good deal on a bike i've wanted for ages.....

Has anyone lost a or had stolen a Black Condor Pista?

    http://www.gumtree.com/london/41/15729341.html

I replied to the guy selling this on Gumtree and it didn't sound good. I asked if he had the reciept at which point he changed his story. It suddenly wasn't his but his older brother's. I asked if he had any proof it was his and he said he'd have to find out. Maybe my spidy sense isn't working, maybe i'll get laughed out of London but i'd hate it if i'd spent x amount on a Bike only to have it swiped (somehow i don't mind so much if it's cost me bugger all to build.)
    Anyway, Just in case.

Safe riding! (Daily Mail Reading) Chris

    I

Yeah that has been up on a thread before. Personally I think it is quite obviously nicked - and if it isn't then I am quite happy to point out to the genuine owner why I think so - no details of the bike at all; vague excuse as to why getting rid of it; random crap photos of bits of bike instead of shoing the components, no bike knowledge at all.

Essentially, don't do it dude! Not tht I imagine you are if you think it is nicked.

Bad bike karma will bite you on the ass. Sadly someone will take him up on the offer, and so perpetuate the bike theft problem we have in London. Anyone who does that, or goes to Brick Lane in search of a 'bargain', is either a sucker or a bit of a selfish cunt.

    [/rant]

  • I was thinking it was a bit iffy from the advert, he can't spell for a start (not un-common.) But after having a quick chat, i'm not biting. I'm not getting it taken off me by the fuzz!
It's squiffy for sure. He still hasn't got back to me though.

On the brick lane point, i was offered a filmore the other week while minding my own business, i wasn't having that either, i was only looking for a brake bolt.

"Anyone who does that, or goes to Brick Lane in search of a 'bargain', is either a sucker or a bit of a selfish cunt" i'd agree with that in principle.

  • saw a grey surly steamroller on brick lane on sunday, fixed, nice setup, the guy/bum said 'that front one ain't for sale, the back one is', refering to a crappy 'full suspension' mtb. the surly looked so dodgy, i'm betting it was stolen. anyone on here?

  • well here's an interesting update!

My girlfriend found her bike locked up to a lamppost in Brick Lane yesterday, complete with the stickers still in place (so there's no doubt). She found the girl who has it now, and discovered that she bought it from the second hand furniture place next to Rockit on Brick Lane.

It seems they are selling on stolen bikes!

They reported it to the police, and I think they are going to go and pay the shop a visit today. Get the girl her money back and give my girfriend back her bike!

I said I hoped they gave the shop an earful, and the PC responded "We don't tell people off sir, we arrest them"

I guess watch this space, and tell your friends to keep clear of the shop.

  • A step in the right direction!

  • bristlypioneer the PC responded "We don't tell people off sir, we arrest them"

^yay! come on the five-oh for once - thats like a line from a movie. ( note to self - use "I don't tell people off, I ____ them" in a conversation )
..but what about riding on the pavement? ;-)

  • East london's a joke for bikes. Anyone who buys off Dick Lane should be hung up to dry. Not to mention the fences and the thieves. A friend of mine actually got pushed off his bike whilst riding so they could nick it. C***s.

Wish I could see the ITV doc. Just to scare myself even more.

Do you think a penny farthing would be just too wierd for the thieving scumbags?

  • thing is this one was bought from a shop, not some hoodie on the side of the street.

    a business with premesis.

no doubt they'll claim they bought it in good faith from someone, but i'll bet their 'suppliers' just happen to come across loads of 'second hand' bikes each week, and only take cash in hand.

ah ah - criminal offence sir.

to be fair, a lot of people don't know how dodgy it is. they learn... but slowly.

  • You should report it to ebay too - good luck!

  • win the auction, say you'll pay cash on collection, then turn up with some heavies / cops / mase

  • Yeah, keep us in the loop! Bring the thieving/fencing fsckers DOWN!

  • yeah, do what tomasito says - then post on here and round up a load of us to help you collect

  • I walked past a warehouse on sclater street the other day.

Had a double take as it was FULL of about 300 bikes all piled up on eachother.

If you walk past in the week have a look, it's next to that weird bar/squat place you can get a beer at anytime of the night.
