fixed gear andy advised me to get 46x18 to make skidding easier. i've not done that yet, but going down the hill in greenwich park was teh first time i managed to consistently skid - i think it really is just about taking your weight right off your back wheel and putting it as far forward as you can manage (which is a lot easier going downhill). but hey, i'm only a beginner, and no real ambitions to skid massively. i'm sure it will come with time.

winston I always thought bonking was older than knocking....my dad taught it to me and his racing days were back in the fifties.....
Maybe there are regional variations?
winston What hill in Kings cross......????
there is a slight "incline" between Kings Cross and the junction (intersection if you must) with Pentonville Rd and Amwell.
Yeah, Pentonville Rd is more of a drag, but then riding on the flat is a fucking drag as well.

From Kingscross heading up York Way to the top of Camden Road? That's a hill, albeit by London standards.

That's a Way rather than a hill. The clue's in the name ;)

I went to 64x8 because I am always late...
that hilly in Kings Cross bit is rather a slight slope....
-

But Percy Circus has some off-camber gradient (for about 20m).

i ride 39 x 16 x 700cc. spinny but good for the knees.
i think they're referring to the climb up to the angel (i.e. all the way) but i wouldn't call that much of a hill myself. and, why was your father bonking you? that sounds rather dubious...
