  • Just got this quote from them:
Front 700c track wheel, painted white, rim masked $370.00 USD. Shipping, $212.00 USD. Not including duty, taxes, etc.
$212 for shipping! shit, that's madness. + import duty. £280 + import tax.
Good or bad? Seems a lot.

  • will it make you faster on the track?

  • no!
I do like them, but it aint worth it for that kind of money. another time me thinks

  • oh, seems a bit steep then.

you can get a LOT of beer/wine/food for that sort of money.

    (my priorities are obvious..)

  • "but they look pretty"

  • cheap shit alternative???

  • oh yeah, that's class

  • Bugger, ive had my eye on that and been keeping it under my hat as the last one he sold went for peanuts. ive been rumbled! I think there pretty rad, you can get empowder coated from the factory too.

  • on the "cheap alternative side" i believe that some taiwanese companies unveiled cheap carbon composite wheels at this years interbike. i believe they're considerably heavier, yet not necessarily sturdier, than normal aerospokes. but if 'looks' is all that you want to achieve, go for it. if like RPM said, you want to go faster on the track, then start saving because you'll probably want something that costs twice as much as an aerospoke, and not just a front one.

  • Conan, who makes them shitty mag wheels? I want a shitty yellow rear magwheel for my insane eyesore bike (or possibly my pista)

  • Aerospokes are cheap and shit, but, weirdly some people like to pay over the odds for them...Aerospoke ltd can't believe it!
As for going faster on the track, with all due respect Mr Trout, a Rowland built 28 hole traditional "wheel" with lightweight tubs will make you go faster on the track than an aerospoke and will cost you HALF the price not double.

It's much better value to lose an ounce of body fat than pay for an ounce saving in carbon! the only thing guaranteed to make you go faster on the track is getting fitter. A standard club rider will see no perceivable difference in their performance in the kind of racing they may take part in track leagues by wasting money on carbon wheels....even top riders like Messrs Scripps, Taylor and Lewis save their carbon for top flight competition only.

Of course if you were to turn up at the track with carbon wheels, then get beaten by all the 60 year old super-vets on trad wheels you would look rather foolish which would be hilarious so I would encourgae anyone to do this!

  • I didn’t really read every one’s comments but I am think aerospokes look wicked and that’s why I will indeed be buying my self one. I can’t see it making a massive difference in the way I ride. I am in the process of trying to get one from king kog, am gonna have it powder coated pink ( ooooooo bling : ) but I am having my sent to a friend in the us and then they are gonna bring it over for Christmas I think. so if you order yours over there I am sure my mate can bring yours with….

Those shitty mags weighs 1.5KG per wheel. Are you sure you want them?

  • I think if it's for looks getting an Aersospoke is fine. That why I wanted one originally. I'd seen some bikes with them and thought they looked cool. I still quite like the look of them on the right bike but getting them for use on the track for their aero properties is a bit off I think.

  • £280 for a white aerospoke? You could buy a decent second hand bike for that much or a decent, light, real carbon (not plastic) front wheel if you are gonna race on the track

  • who gives a toss, why he wants it?

  • I want mine to fit to a big blender so that I can make a squash out of my prize marrows.

  • I think marrows are a type of squash aren't they?

  • leave them to it, they've got the money to spend and they want looks let them be, this is becoming like the helmet/brakes discussion.

  • dogsballs who gives a toss, why he wants it?

This poster asked whether it was a good or bad deal and various people responded with their views. I agree that people can spend their money how they want but it's good to understand what you're buying before dropping the cash. I agree that the aerospoke debate is becoming as bad as brakes vs brakeless and helmets vs hats.

  • Just type 'Spinergy' in US Ebay....

  • well said momentum, I wasn't asking if people like them or not. Just whether it seems a lot. There's one on eBay.com for $370, brand new, it's the same price as direct from aerospoke, and wont ship out of US, I guess cos of postal costs.

  • I got my front white aerospoke from that dude. $370 plus $10 postage anywhere in US. I had it sent to a friend in NYC the post from there to London was $45.00 arrived in 4 days :-)

The only thing I would say is that $370 is obviously a lot of money for a wheel so it's worwhile thinking what you will get for the money. I think the consensus is that they don't offer many performance benfits over traditional wheels and so might not be the best choice for either street or track performance. If it was me I would get a quality wheelset (e.g goldtec/mavic cxp33 for street or loose ball track hub/tubular for track) if performace was a concern. Aerospokes do offer a unique look and that might be worth the cash. They are meant to be strong, but once they go out of true or the braking surface gets worn then there's no way to repair them.

If I was going to get a composite wheel then I'd look for a second hand one (trispoke seem to go for about £150 on ebay) rather than new as I reckong that it's better value.
