Brakes don't seem to make much difference anyway, I had some stupid crackhead tw@t on an MTB up my rear wheel last night at the lights on Stockwell roundabout... Got in his face and called him every name under the sun... Didn't seem to register with him, in cloud cuckoo land he was... Wheel fine tho'...
I agree with the extreme prejudice approach, spanner his spokes next time... :-/
