'Three day monk' is a literal translation of a Japanese four-character proverb: 'mikkabouzu'. It's used to mean someone who takes up a new endeavour only to give it up soon after, like a novice who tires of monastic asceticism after three days.
It reminds me to continue what I start!
(Edit: this bbs software hates kanji.)

I have way more bikes than is sensible but also have a silly compulsion to keep taking them apart to tinker with them so regularly turn up at work on a different bike, causing people to rather take the piss, "oh, another one!", I do though recognise that this is a bit silly and not entirely neccessary.
Up until a couple of years ago I worked with young people with acute drug problems, "poly drug users", so lifted my name from that, polybikeuser. Probably a bit sad, but there you go.

Renn is from aNdREw, my middle name, with an extra n because somebody was using ren on another forum.
Unfortunately for Renn this may be it's only outing as I was planning to use another account as karma. Don't ask me why I didn't as it's just cringeworthy.
Oh btw karma comes from MARK Andrew reworked and karm just didn't sound right.

When I was 12 I went on a school activities week thing to Cowes on the isle of white. We spent a week learning how to sail a small yacht (45 feet). I remember being really enthralled with the open seas, pulleys, ropecraft, jibs, spinnakers and all things sailing related - and i admired the skipper (captain) the way little boys do - I wanted to be him when I grew up!
At the end of the week I got my RYA Competent Crew certificate - it's still on my CV He had misspelt my name as 'Proven Rad' - D'oh!!
Anyway I kinda liked it and it's finally been resurrected... :-) (see profile for my real name) -

I can't explain my username. That'd be offensive to your intellects.

When I was a student, I was a faultlessly polite fellow (no sniggering at the back!) and would address my friends with the appropriate honorific before their name: "Mr. Jack", "Miss Sarah", "Dr. Graham" etc. After a while, what went around came around and I was Mr. Tom.
I have since found out that Tom Simpson had the same nickname, but my drug consumption is a fraction of his.
