Connect a polished turd bike to the mains supply?
Impractical but fun!

always lock your bike up where you can see it, always use both locks to lock to something, use 2 different types of lock (d and cable)... IS THIS NOT ENOUGH?!
-
• #255

How long were they left for by the way? was there anything left of the D locks to give you an inkling of how they might've gotten
through them? Info mucho appreciated!ps. Agreed - shit looking bikes are the only way forward!

both were gone within an hour of me last seeing them but this was in the early hours of the morning. i only found the remains of one d lock and it looked like it had been frozen then hit with a hammer as the breaks were not clean cut.

from what i've read your chances of a claim are not good - read the fine print on their faq
you need the remains of the lock for a start - which you have to send to them...
also you have to validate the insurance withing a certain amount of time of buying the lock
by sending off all the reciepts for your bike or somesuch nonsense - one of those things that
if you were super organised and had the remains of the lock you MIGHT be in with a chance but
basically i wouldn't count on it. -

I watched some program on the BBC a while back, all about Bike theft in London, and that Tw%t who escaped jail, despite nicking over 100 bikes was mentioned. It was seriosly frighning! One, they set a man with an angle-grinder on a bike in central london, during rush hour. No one even looked twice! The guy walked away with the bike no questions asked. Two, the ran a series of tests on various bike locks, between 20/30 quid mark up to over a ton, and NONE lasted more than a few seconds.
Despite that I still went out and bought another lock for my bike! -

That was the one. It was sick!
An angle grinder, outside Barbican Tube, at rush hour!
Either way, my locks faired badly in the test. -

A guy did the same thing in NYC. It's on YouTube. He uses hacksaw, bolt-cutters, angle grinder.. broad daylight.. no one bothers him.
I have the UK one on my Sky box. Dunno if you can record off them or not. Just not nerdy enough to find out these days.. -

Black Langster, bullhorns, yellow tyres - nicked from Chiswick Park this afternoon between 2 and 4pm.
points: It sucks, and I'm fcuked off I'll have to get pubic transport for the forseeable. Was really looking forward to the Brighton run on Sun and looking forward to doing it fixed. Might take the geared bike or blag a lend...
points: Everything was wearing out, and I've a feeling my insurance will work "new for old".
At least I've got new wheels on the way. Ordered today also - oh the irony.....

Sheeeet... Sorry mate I'm round there a fair bit so will keep 'em peeled! If you want it back theres only 3 Chiswick shops you need to ask to keep a look-out. And at least theres a couple of + points there to soften the blow..

Cheers guys....
In this instance, was an Abus chain:
Normally use a strong d-lock in conjunction - today was the first day I've ever left the d-lock at home (was carrying too much other stuff, and thought "it should be ok for 1 day")I think there's a lesson there....
