yeah, unless you are going about 500 miles an hour in a skin tight rubber suit everywhere you go you are going to look like a right tosser wearing that
you see the thing about cockmey's is that they have a sense of humour " oh look there goes the spaceman" everybloodywhere you go

  • DIBS ON THE BRIKO IF IT STAYS UNDER POUND40!

and buddah: that's just it, these aren't marketed to be "safe" - the aero ones (which are the ones with the 'spikes on the back' sorry if that wasn't clear) are marketed to give you a slight aerodynamic advantage during an ITT - though windtunnel tests show that gloves decrease one's aero-ness. and the leather hairnets..well, that was just kind of a not having the technology in the early day's of cycling thing.

  • That Birko looks like the helmets they used to wear in that Japanese cartoon about Bird Spaceship things.

  • Science Ninja Team Gatchaman

  • 5% saving over conventional helmet.. about 47 seconds during a 40k TT.

  • I was watching this bird tonight driving across place de concorde filing her nails whilst steering her car with her knees
I know because she went past me pretty quickly cutting it a bit close
I wanted to give her a bit of a nasty look it was only then that I realised that she wasn't actually watching where she was going
I must admit I never got into the old helmet thing I suppose because i have never been hit by a car
and because when I have fallen I have fallen on my shoulders and not my head
maybe I'll give it another go, eh, but my last helmet I gave to this bird because she looked like she needed it more than me

  • Nothing wrong with giving a bird yer helmet.

I've not been hit by a car but I still wear a helmet. You only need one bad crash. It's not like you're guaranteed a warning crash.

  • hehe "warning crash"

  • I've not been hit by a car in about twenty five years of city riding which is a wee bit strange because I 'nearly' get hit just about everyday

    I don't mind wearing a helmet, I just can't find one I like ...:(

  • tallsam

another of my favorite cartoons, they recut the japanese version and put in a stoopid r2d2 type robot because they though tthe Japanese version was too voilent.....ill get me coat

  • riminds me of this

  • Because after reading fyxomatosis I've decided I don't want to die. I've searched topics as I thought there would be more topics on helmets, but there isn't. Anywhom, I'm after some sort of recommendations, as I will buy it online and so won't be able to see it in the flesh.

    What I'm after...

    Is a dark coloured
    Medium sized
    Well vented
    Well fitted
    Cool
    Helmet

Oh yeah, I'll spend around £60 (online prices), I know it sounds terrible, but I would really like one that looks good too, not a really big one or one with no vents or something. I guess I'm pretty vain. I'm open to all types of well recommended helmets, pisspot or whatever.

    Many thankyous.

  • New Giro Monza!

Matt black and fifty sh!ters for a nice looking lid!

  • i think you have to try them on. i use giro zen for off-road which fits me better than the giro E2 i had before, for road i use a bell ghisallo which is the best fitting lid i have used.
a trip to cyclepurgotry and evans is probably in order.

  • What a total lunatic..

  • Nicholas What a total lunatic..

thats quite a polite why to say what I am thinking

  • he needs to brush his teeth

  • Jake Because after reading fyxomatosis I've decided I don't want to die.

There is just no way out of it I am afraid, you can only put it of for a tiny fraction of time, everyone here on this forum will be in the ground at the same time in a few decades.

    (except for me)

    They aren't his teeth.

  • Leave Sheldon alone..

As for helmets.. go to a shop and find a comfy one that meets your aesthetic requirements.
    Fit first, funky later.

  • Yep, definitely go to a shop. Even Halfords have a fairly good range.

Go for one with an adjuster at the back of the head, as well. You can get the tension around your head just right. And to state the obvious make sure you read the instructions and fit it well, the amount of people I see with really badly adjusted helmets out and about is surprising.
