• Cajeta
tallsam Neil Young. Lots and lots of Neil Young. He's like Bob Dylan but better.

you can't really compare them. it's like saying that california is better than new york.
No it isn't. it's like saying one songwriter is better than another, which Dylan is!

• this morning:

the go-betweens
jonathan richman/modern lovers
john cale

• this morning :

Nightmares on wax

Jackson and his computer band

Some vintage detroit house compilation

• stompy
Amaral

I'm in an acoustic mood.

mellow, but not necessarily acoustic (oh, and Spanish, which i guess is why she springs to mind): Ana D

have you got the we are the night album?....the tracks called saturate on the album..and the salmon dance track is wicked!

• lol. I was only trying to provoke a reaction with the Neil Young VS Bob Dylan comment. But in all honesty I think I do prefer Young to Dylan.

• Cajeta Gram Parsons!
Flying Burrito Brothers
The Byrds
International Submarine Band

I take my hat off to you, sir!
'One hundred years from now' (the fast version, with Gram singing, off the Byrds box set) is an all-time fave rave...

• bob dylan is better than neil young.

graduation is better than curtis, but both 50's and Kanye's albums are distinctly average, i think. not highly recommended.

• Young. Definitely.

• Woody Guthrie kicks both of their arses in the head.

• Bob Dylan and Neil Young and Woody Guthrie wish that they were Phil Ochs.

"I just can't keep up with Phil. And he's getting better and better and better." - Dylan.

• lpg bob dylan is better than neil young.

They both make very average (some - me - might say shit) hip hop. Kanye can't rap and is a whiny little bitch. 50 is all front and no skill. I fail to see why ppl get so excited about these guys.

• they are both the biggest selling hiphop artists of the last 5 years.
their newest albums deserve recognition.

• i dont mind kanye but 50 cent!!!! he's a complete f*cking dickhead....he's an insult to rap!

• try Bill Fox. i only know of two albums: Shelter From The Smoke, and Transit Byzantium.
do it.

• scott not scot
lpg they are both the biggest selling hiphop artists of the last 5 years.

since when was popularity a direct reflection of quality?.....if that's the case then i guess the f*ckin cheeky girls must be talented too eh?....
you can't use record sales as an argument for ability....it's merely a reflection of trends...it's like a tidal wave....once the hype builds up about somebody (hype that is 'bought' with backhanders to the right people)....everyone simply buys it to be like their mates,or to be cool.
To some extent, i agree, but how else can we quantify musical ability - the only measure is album sales. That isn't to say that the biggest selling albums of the last 10 years are mine or yours top 10 favourite albums of that period, but, on a very general average, it is the country's, because its what people are spending their money on.Hype can work to boost album sales, but if the music isn't good then it won't get very far.

since when was popularity a direct reflection of quality?

Well, in a few cases, not at all, but i can name you many quality popular albums, can you name me many quality unpopular ones? Surely if they are quality, then they will get popular.

I do believe musical taste is a personal matter, but albums produced during times of different trends are still good today. Think of all the classic albums.

Nah I don't have it but I've listened to it and played it in the shop a gazillion times now :) When I get paid/student loan comes through I'll order it on vinyl. It's a wicked album, with the exception of one or two dud tracks.

Yeah I thought I had heard Electronic Battle Weapon 8 before but it's just a slightly different version of Saturate.

Haha, I was standing by the computer in my shop and had two guys come up and ask if I could tell them how many albums we'd sold of Kanye and 50 because they had a bet on that Kanye would have sold more. At about 2pm yesterday we had sold 60-odd of Kayne, only 47 (I think) of the moron that is 50 cent.

Looks like 50 cent is trying to undercut Kanye as well, since the album is £3 cheaper pretty much everywhere.

Anyone like Maths and English by Dizzee? I've been enjoying that loads.

• I like Maths and English but my opinion is his albums get slightly worse each one. The standard is still quite high but his first is the best imo.

Listening to:

Swamp Dogg.

• gotta post this pic of him too:

very cool

this is the crack-smokingest argument. define "popular".

• you say funk; i say funkadelic.
