That's a lot, I normally see 2-3 others per day max, that's among hundreds of other cyclists (including the Holland Park commute-oton - I'm going the other way!)
But I put that down to not going central in a normal day.
Although I did (attempt to) give directions to a girl on a nice white fixed in Crouch End on Saturday - haven't seen too many around here either. (fixies, not girls) -

I live on Old Street. I've started to play "spot the geared bike" as it's a more challenging game.

It was a lot. I ride Ealing to City and back daily and I might see 2 on average a day. Then to have two MORE to race on the way home.. :)

living outside of london you really don't have this problem. i know people with them in the manor. but one a week if you're lucky!

i work in the city by monument tube station. every time i go out for a smoke, i see a few courriers a day :) inspiration! :)
in high traffic, can any of u hop onto pavement effortlessly to skip a black cabbie too close to the "cycle lane"? i saw one the other day by blackfriars, it looked so smoooth!! :)
-
• #8
well, not effortlessly. back wheel makes an uncomfortable thud with the pavement.
gotta practice that move.

Spotted two Genisis with seconds of each other heading west on Bayswater and then a conversion another 30sec down the road.
Guess all the city fixers are still in bed when I arrive at work. -

lol saw a fixed courrier this morning on jamaica road!

I rode from sw17 to the holloway road in the pissing rain then back again with a heavy load yesterday, I saw a stickerbombed fuji tied up outside the Buddist zen yoga place next to Cycle Scourgery and a courier around blackfriars on a stripey jobby. That was it. To be honest I don't really make a point of looking or caring about other people's bikes.
"thou shalt not covet thy neighbours ox" or something.
I saw Roberto too, but sure he was on gears

I've only seen one other forum rider on the commute in and that was David K. It was him who told me about the forum and I've haven't seen him since.
I dropped the car off at the garage in Merton the other week and cycled in from there - noticed lots of mtn bikes & bromptons thru Tooting - Balham - Clapham; I don't know if its blind prejudice but there seems to be more fixies /ss coming in from West (or at least less summer cyclists / punters).
However, I work on Theobold's Rd and it's like BMMF's neighbourhood - spot the gear is a more challenging pursuit. I guess the further you venture into gritty urban East London, the more fixies you see...

yup, I'm kinda scared I'll break everything apart.. I can hop about 3 feet on the good old bmx, but I'm scared that hopping a sidewalk on the fixie will make it disintegrate.. won't it?

Ha ha spoted. I see a lot every day but I ride through teh city and south east and east London alot. I even have met a guy in Plumbstead on a Lancaster, don't run into him much as our times don't overlap but have spoken to him before.

I ride through jamaica road, but I'm not a courier..
-

What iritates me about Jamaica road is that it does not even go in the direction of Jamaica!
-
• #19
i never see any fixies on my ride to work, particularly north of camden town, might be those hills. sometimes see some around marlybone rd, but usually couriers
-

Fixies that don't go up hills are like mountainbikes that don't go off-road. It's just cruelty/neglect/abuse. I might set up the RSPCF.

Fuck that aero shit.
7pm: Saw no less than TEN that's 10 yes X fixies between the city and Kings X.. one of them was even Tommy, headin' south on Gray's Inn Rd.
Down Holland Park Ave. there was a guy in cyclefit kit riding a white fix (can't remember brand now) AND another riding an older style blue Condor with gold rims. The Condor rider continued all the way to Ealing.
I was going to run him into the ground (so much for resting sore knee) but decided instead to slow and mention the forum. So we might have another westie join up.
Poor guy ended up puncturing near my place (those tacks I layed work). Also mentioned lfgss to a singlespeeder on a utility-looking red roadie the other day.. 'carn Westies! ;)
