I would like to do this too but Saturdays are out for me. Any chance of a Sunday?
How is the A10 for cycling? Anyone got any good back-roads?

I can do Sundays but have to skip a club ride.
We could do it night-ride style too when it's quieter. Now that the rain has stopped it might even be "nice". :) -

need to let the knees recover a bit first! i did the bike events london-cambridge a few years ago - that was a nice route, i'll have a hunt for the map.....

I rode from Elsenham to Cambridge a few months back with a novice cyclist friend. We got the train to Elsenham and went on from there, a lovely route through country and villages.
I think it would be nice to head out of London on the A1010 and then go through the quiet fens.
But, as for the rest of this summer so far, I have very little free time at weekends :-( This saturday would work for me...

I am am up for it but August I think will be bussy on w/e for me. However I may end up with a free day on a w/e.

I'm up for this. I did it the other week. There's some really nice pubs along the way. Its probably worth getting doing around 60/65 or so miles and stopping for lunch on the way back.
I've got the route on gps so I'll download tonight and post.

Coolio. Still waiting to find out if I'm going to Reading, if not I'm in. Hopefully I won't have to bail this time.

The official London to Cambridge was last weekend 22nd, I still have the route card I think, if people want it, i'll scan it.
I didn't spot any other fixed riders on it, apparently I was the first fixed to finish, I was probably the only fixed though.
I ran a 50:15 and it took 3 hours 15 minutes, we took one 15 min tea break and we stopped to fix my Speedplay pedals. I was fairly pleased with that as we had kept energy to come back, although we had one too many beers and caught the train home instead. -

We could do it like Southend and ride there, drink and train back? Makes it more likely to get the distance scardies involved plus I have to ride in to town anyway..

I would be lying if I said they didn't hurt, I fell off a few times after the pub so that added to knee pain.

Or...ride it there...drink...and then ride back ;-)

Well, we can make it an optional return by bike or train.. depending on BAC levels.

I've been to Oxford. The reason for Cambridge was initially that mareeoh and myself hadn't been there.
I can do Oxford as well. I don't care.. I'll ride anywhere so long as I haven't got something else on. :) -

I got a larger 4.1MB version, but I can't host it anywhere. If anyone wants it, comment with a e-mail address.
Its a really nice route, fairly quiet country roads. There is a bit of A-Roads at the end but nothing stupid. -

See what I mean about pubs. There's three on that map and there must have been 4 or more along the way. Each with a garden. Very pretty!

Pint in each?
Seeing as though most of you are now long-distance certified after the Dunwich, we should orangutanise a ride to Cambridge.
It's only 50mi there so we should ride back too. How about tomorrow night? ;-)
