rakan On Heathrow Express i would have thought they would say no bikes so keep bike in box.
I phoned and asked. Bikes are cool at any time.

They'd feckin' wanna be too for £25 or whatever they charge. Get the Heathrow Connect I tells ya.. it's cheaper and ends up at Paddington, same as the Express.
It even calls into West Ealing where you can walk to the Drayton Court pub for their steak and ale pie!!! :D -

Since I'm arriving late on Saturday (8:25pm) I was gonna keep the bike in the box and just take to tube to someone's house. I've got one of those freight box/bag thingys. Thought maybe I could get it on the tube.
-
• #31
If you are going on the tube, leave the bike packed. The tube people do not like the idea of bikes in the tube system, especially in the deep stations (way underground). However they're perfectly at ease with insanely large pieces of luggage!?!

i'm thinking it'll be difficult to find someone at home at 8pm on a saturday.... but i'm working on it.
I'm also wondering if I should even bring that Freight box cuz it doesn't fold up! -
• #33
I carried a bike frame w/ fork and stem on the god voice D E E P! T U B E! with no probs. Just don't try it peak hour (5-7ish).
When you know where you are ending up, let us know and we can formulate optimum plan.. taking in the most pubs possible yeah? that's the optimum route usually.. right? -

scott not scot were you planning on calling back into london to pick up the box on your way home?....cos you're riding to dublin aren't ya?
yes, and yes, I'm flying back to NYC from London. I guess I could leave it in London. But I'm flying from Dublin back to London. so I think I need it in Dublin as well. there's word that there will be a support van for tent's, etc. Maybe I can stash my box in there too. but I'd hate to rely on that...

Stef about the pre event....can anyone tell me what's going on?
Registration is at the Foundry 86 Gt. Eastern street EC2 from Midday on Friday. If you've already paid then there'll be a tee shirt and info pack with your name on it.Most of Fridays events are around the Foundry then there's a squat party but you've got to be at the Foundry to find out. So in short go to the Foundry on Friday.
Any queries can be dealt with at the London Calling website http://www.londonscalling07.org.uk/
Kym, there is a van going to Dublin. pester people at the website for more definite information as I'm not involved in the ride part of the event. -

s_9 Hey London, this is Ken from NYC. Kym and I are friends. Best friends. I'm going to ask a few questions here too, if you don't mind.
1) How much rain HAS england been getting this summer, and are we going to be drenched by the time we get to Dublin?
2) Does anybody know how to ride from Heathrow into the city? I'm arriving at 7am on Friday, and I'm assuming that getting on the Underground with a bike & luggage during rush hour.Josh has some info about the Dublin ride here:

The ride in from the airport is cool, as long as you don't use the A4 (ridiculous bike lane!).
If you like, I can google map a pleasant enough route that I have used multiple times.

Hi. I'm Rachael. Friends with Kym and Ken. I'll be arriving at Gatwick on Friday morning. Any advice for how to get to the city with a bike from that airport? I heard the Southern Rail Train? Can I put a bike on it (in bag or no bag)?
-
• #42
Yeah don't need a bag to put a bike on the regular train service from Gatwick, goes to either Victoria (West) or London Bridge (East). Takes about 30 mins.
Oh and no bikes on trains which arrive in London between 7am and 10am
Gatwick express you might need a bag for...

Gatwick is a far old way to central London about 25 - 30 miles could be a nice ish ride though before you git the suburbs. possible route?
Some info here on trains. I expect on most routes you are fine with a bike as long as it is not rush hour.

Hey, Austin here. Got a few more questions about London before I catch my flight tonight. What's the theft like here? Mostly I'm curious about how much concern the security of my wheels and parts merit.
Also, does Nextel have a network over here? Wondering if my phone'll be worth bringing.
Thanks -

One more thing, where's the best place to change money?

Austin, when do you fly out & when do you get in? I'm flying AIR INDIA (AI 112) tonight at 7:45, getting into London at 7:30am on Friday.
Here's a link to Nextel's UK coverage. I've got an i760. My phone won't work out there. I'm not even bringing it.
http://www.nextel.com/en/services/worldwide/internationalcoverage.shtml#uThere's also http://www.roadpost.com which rents you international phones & minutes, although it's a bit late in the game to make that one happen, I guess.

Horse One more thing, where's the best place to change money?
Post office has the best official rates.
hippy,
I'd totally do the same, but...ya know....other side of the street drivers, weird roads that change names after three blocks....might not be wisest. On the other hand, some of the best things I've ever done started out as bad decisions...
