eeehhhh Why did you want plain gauge over double butted out of interest?
I got mixed advice on this, tbh.
In the end I just let Condor get on with it. They were insistent (as they tend to be!) that PG was what a fat cnut on a fixed needed.
They've been top-notch wheels.

You can get black brass nipples apparently (http://chainringtransitauthority.com/cta_blog/?p=46).
I don't do alu nipples due to the bad press they've got.. -

Have you considered these...i have them on my condor pista with asymetric condor.goldtec hubs and they are very nice. Have taken the bling swiss DT stickers off and they are now nicely understated.

I was going to go for them but they're still too bling. I'll be leaving my bike outside all day so I don't want to draw any attention to it. Aero rims are still noticeable I think even if they are a plain colour and destickered.
I'll probably get open pros when my new job coughs up some notes.

get whatever rims you like, invest in pitlocks and lock both your wheels to the frame, you would anywhay wouldn't you?
araya rims are wicked and look pretty low profile, if you want something unnoticeble -

i know i shouldn't be posting this as i'd like to be one of a handful of people riding arayas but well, we should all help each other...http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NOS-Araya-700c-1W-clincher-bronze-anodized-bicycle-rims_W0QQitemZ200126101538QQihZ010QQcategoryZ36144QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD2VQQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting.

Any of the usual shops in london sell Araya rims? I'm coming up today.

i dont know of any shops which sell arayas.. and you'd have to ride brakeless (on the onese shown) no braking surface, they also make mtb rims

Same. Deep section rims have more material on the rim and eyelets are not needed.
Some peeps argue eyelets are not needed these days at all as the rim metal is better others argue they are compulsory.
I didn't have eyelets on my Velocity Fusion (semi deep) and they rocked.

What Hippy is saying is the same as what I've heard, too.
Deep section rims don't need eyelets because they are inherently stronger because of the deep section. Adding eyelets would be adding excess weight.
Shallow section rims (allegedly) need eyelets because they're shallow and inherently weaker in comparison to a deep section.
Depends on the rim really. I think open pros and cxp22s, possibly not cxp33s, need eyelets. They're quite shallow. Deep Vs, no way.

arayas come without eyelets and i hope they don't need any as i'm not gonna fit any, but Andy doesn't have any on so...fingers crossed

Well, The Mercian is coming in August so I've started to think about what rims I should get. I need a braking surface on the front wheel for 32h large flange Miche Primato Pista hubs. I saw some MavicCXP12 on velospace recently and thought they looked real nice, but they don't make them anymore, and I don't think they have a braking surface...
Any recommendations? I don't want DT SWISS, they just won't look right with a Pearl white Mercian frame - and you can't get the decals of them (there are too many...), unless u know of a DT SWISS rim that has no stickers or logos etched onto it (...?...)

roberto has some french N.O.S. deep section rims in silver, you could get them to armourtex for a spray of whatever colour, but if youwant the vintage look then remember that rims mainly came in silver

Open pros. Bomb proof, ride well, and not too flashy - you people to look at your new frame right?
-
• #72
velocity boy has some nice rims cpx33 I think. The v section is quite understated but looks good and will add some stiffness (if you want that) other wise I say open pros as well.

got a box fresh pair of cpx33 for sale if you're interested-
[roberto tempted me with a pair of cpx30's after i purchased them]

Fuck that bike is niiiiiiiiiiiice. Certainly a sight for sore and hungover eyes.
kowalski - well, my measurements on the hub tell me that the chainline is going to be too big by about 2-4mm, depending on the cog. I was going to go for a reasonably thin cog but apparently with 1/8 chain it can get into the way with the spokes in the flange, so I'll have to see. I might even just go for 3/32 chain.
The chainring on my bontrager track cranks is on the inside of the spider, giving me a 41mm chainline. I'm planning on just buying a new chainring and bolting it on the outside of the spider, where there is this ridiculous bash guard. Hey presto! Perfect chainline (with a spacer or 5 maybe).
Yea I was looking online last night at coloured nips... probably won't bother because they're aluminium.
