when I switched from spd to flats on MTB, 5 years ago, it was like I lost 10% of fitness/pedaling power and NEVER got it back.
going to clipless from clips and straps was like reclaiming that fitness, it's such a doss. and no more sore toes from clips digging in.
also, with size 11 it's hard to find a shoe/pedal combo that doesn't cause the feet to rub on the cranks/frame.
I just never found shoes stiff enough that would fit in the clips.
And, if you have slightly different feet (which most people do) you can set your cleats in the rights place and at the right angle. Less pain, more gain.
I'll put the sylvans back on when i ride to a party next week. but it's clipless all the way for serious cycling
